LS1 camaro oil pan - filter thread difference?
« on: January 09, 2012, 04:28:02 PM »
so i picked up an oil filter for an 02 camaro at autozone. ph3506 i believe. same part number as for my 99 silverado with a 5.3

but it appears to be a different thread from my camaro oilpan in my fc....

did they change filter threads at some year?
i do not know what year camaro pan I have.

autozone's online thing shows 98 camaro and an 02 camaro as using the same filter....?

Try a pf48 not 100% sure this is the right one without checking what I finally got to fit mine. The newer pans use metric threads. When I got my ls1 pan I bought a filter for a firebird with ls1 and mine didn't fit either.

googling that part number lead me to discussions on vette forums saying in 07 gm started using pf48 opposed to pf46 of previous years
also, as for threads.

the 22mm PF48 thread does not fit the 13/16" thread on the 2006 and earlier engines (except for the 2006 Z06)

does this mean my pan is a newer replacement pan from well after the 4th gens disappeared?

That sounds right, our new F body pan came with a PF48.

I had the same problem, I bought a f-body pan from ebay, it was brand new with gasket, bolts ect... I finally found that a 2006 corvette 7.0L was an exact match, same dimensions as the 98-02 camaro filter, just slightly different threads to fit my new ls1 camaro pan.

I swapped the fittings with the truck pan I had, that way I could use the longer filter I bought.
