longtube headers for LS1 FC - Will F-Body headers work?
« on: October 01, 2011, 03:44:25 PM »
I'm just wondering if longtube headers designed for a F-Body will clear in a FC.. I just noticed that the drivers side kindof jets out a few degree's towards the side of the car. Will this be an issue when I go to install the engine?
I'm fine with having to "massage" the floor with a hammer to get them to fit.

I think the problem you will run into is like you said the stick out to far towards the frame rail. some people are buying foxbody headers and ls1 flanges and "reclocking" them inwards and re-welding them up. Look up poor boy headers on here. The problem with beating the fire wall is the drivers side can't take very much or you will interfere with your throttle pedal. I did initially beat my fire wall in to much before i put in my jtr headers and the throttle pedal would hit the floor way before the bump stop on the pedal assembly. I had to push it back out a bit, and bend the pedal more to accommodate the longer swing of the throttle body cable.

The short answer is NO! Now there are some ways to get CHEEP headers for your ride. look for mid 1990's 5.0 mustang headers, they will fit with mods to the floor.

Or you could get a set of 55 to 57 chevy LS1 swap headers from hooker. Thats the route I went. you will have to modify them for sure. Its not terrible and they will clear the steering and some of the kits like granny's. I have granny's kit, and you have to cut a small part out of the engine mount and the K member to clear the tubes on the driver's side. the passenger side requires alot more work. There will be two tubes to cut to clear  the passenger side.

I'd suggest unless you have the cash for hinson or the other guys on the site here, that you find a cheep set of either of the above, and learn to build your own stuff lol. ;)

If you can buy them , buy them. they are alot of work, but if you can do the work, that makes the savings. :D

F-Body Mac Mid length headers fit if you reclock the header flange on the driver's side.

Not aware of any long tubes that will fit without moving tubes around.

I have a set of BBK Fox body headers and a set of LS1 flanges, This is what I was originally going to do.. I just picked up a set of camaro headers for pretty cheap.. when I get the engine in the car over the next week or so I will see how much work it will take to modify the camaro headers, if not then I'll go the mustang headers route.
if it just requires some bending and reworking I know enough people with pipe bending equipment and presses, but if it's nearly impossible then I'll get the mustang headers out and do that instead.

Hinson's FD longtubes fit on an FC. That's what I have. Some firewall beating required.  :punch:

Even when installing the Hinson fd headers on a fd there is some beating involved. It's just common with Hinson parts.
