Ls1 oil filter relocation kit
« on: June 17, 2011, 02:20:23 PM »
Hi all.  I recently added the stock FC oil cooler back using a oil filter pedestal sammich, and now my oil filter is the lowest thing on the car by a good 3 inches.  I have already crushed it a bit just driving around normally.  I am looking at some oil filter relocation kits like,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-TD-Oil-Filter-Relocation-Kit-1998-02-Camaro-LS1_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33617QQitemZ280436712631#ht_2779wt_914

and the ones from Canton that are very expensive.

Does anybody have any experience or ideas on this subject?

Thanks,
~Tweak

Can you use a shorter filter?

I looked into the shorter filters, but they are not THAT much shorter.  I would have to have like a 1/2 filter. :(  I am fine paying for a nice filter re locator.  I need to add an accusump anyways. :P

How about cooler lines instead of the sandwich adapter.  I found these being used in a first gen swap in ls1tech:

To be clear I already have the oil cooler installed and working fine, I just want to relocate the filter. :)

So you want to keep using a spin-on adapter with a pass through for the filter?  Aka a sandwich plate?

That clearly doesn't work on LS's, for the exact reasons you already found ~ the oil filter will get demolished and you'll pop the motor.

You need a oil filter relocation kit that you can plumb a remote filter mount into.  LPI racing sells the same ones I use, and I believe they're a site sponsor (I'm not, yet)

I use the billet 90* adapter and the billet remote oil filter mount with 3/4-16" threads for my Amsoil EAO15 racing oil filters.
