If you run the blue low pressure spring and run your engine to stock like tolerences, you won't run the pan dry. if you run looser, you may need the red spring to get optimum oil pressure.

Good to know I never got a confirmation on which spring to run for what conditions so I ordered an Ls6 pump instead. I have great oil pressure so everything worked out.

If you are going to run all that get the 10296 Melling high volume oil pump and run the optional low pressure spring it comes with.

That's good info man, thanks for sharing.  I'll definitely keep that in mind when it comes to pump selection.

Ive been reading this in the bathroom for the past couple weeks  :D

Wow looks like it's been a while since I posted an update, here's where we left off:

The motor showed signs of bearing wear towards the end of its first season, shortly after this event -

So the car went in the garage for the winter and I got to work, lots of big changes will be happening over the next few months.

Took the motor out, dropped the subframe, sent the motor out to the builder and started chassis prep -

Finished refinishing the 17's, added matte black Enkei stickers, and installed them on the FC for the winter so that the track tires can come inside -

Painted the engine bay and front subframe -

Finished the rear subframe, installed a new stub axle seal, installed MMR individual camber adjusters and MMR trailing arm spherical bearings, coated everything in POR-15 -

Installed a pro 5.0 shifter and steeda shift lever with a 4'' delrin knob, coated the trans in silver POR-15 -

Installed pinion snubber, cleaned and refinished the entire underbody and wheel wells with 3M rubberized undercoating (about 5 cans) -

Lots more to come, the chassis (besides a roll cage) is basically finished and ready for the new motor to come back in.

I'll post in more detail about the progress on the motor later, but I'll be picking up these super clean 243 heads this week -

Thanks, yeah I figured I'd try something new, definitely not for everyone  :D They're only a back-up set of wheels for when I don't need to be using up my R-compounds on the 18's as much.

Bridgestone RE-070, they come oem on the Subaru STi.

A local forum member gave me the whole set for FREE because they were taking up room in his garage  :bacon:

Its actually an s4 t2 diff on a fresh rebuild, but it held up just fine last year.

Big update coming soon, picking up a cage on sunday and ordering the rest of the internals after the tax return fairy comes  :D

Did you rebuild it, cause I know it was used when I put it in there.

Ha yeah we rebuilt it.  The bearings were so toasted in that thing I'm amazed it made it all the way from KY to MI to bring it home.

were the bearings making any noise before you changed the oil?

If you mean the motor, it wasn't making any noise at all.  Oil pressure was normal too, the only reason why I caught it was visibly seeing the metal in the oil.
