FR500 wheels in black chrome??
« on: February 22, 2011, 05:13:26 PM »
I thought the FR500 wheels were not offered in black chrome in a 17" size and was ready to pull the trigger on the anthracites, but I just came across a set of these and I'm having a hard time deciding between the 2 finishes.
The Black chromes are about $100 more for a set, but if I'm going to put the cash out for brand new wheels, I don't want to cheap out.

I know the Anthracite should be a durable finish and will take the odd stone hit.  Is the black chrome going to be as forgiving or will it flake off easily? Which finish would you guys bolt onto my car?

I'm not a fan of chrome and prefer that shiny bits be kept to a minimum.
Even a light coating of dust makes chrome look bad, the anthracite would be more forgiving.

i have the black chrome fr500's.  the finish looks amazing IMO, i would never choose anthracite over it!
and when they get dirty, they just look like black wheels, so no loss there.

How long have you had them for? any dull spots with fully texture, or peeling? I just got out bid on a set of anthracites that I was going to go with as the safe bet, but those look killer! I just wish I could be sure they will look that good in 3 years and not end up looking like the a couple horror stories I've just read about.

theyre my race wheels, and i've had them since fall 09.  finish looks great, but they really havnt seen much in the way of 'harsh conditions'
brake dust comes off very easily, so thats all i really cared about.

for how cheap they are, does it really matter how long the finish lasts?  if they get bad enough, just powdercoat them another color, or buy a new set.
