one of the three center "spokes" will be really thick if it is external balanced..

Filter on, radiator and heater hoses mocked up:

The air filter will NOT clear the hood unfortunately, but it will only require a small scoop, I think it's within 1/2" or so of clearing.   :(

Throttle cable and TV cable are installed.    TV has an adjuster kit from Summit to put the geometry right.    The throttle cable is just a stock N/A FC cable, I cut the end off and tweaked the Edelbrock bracket to fit it:

FPR in place.   Hopefully I'll have the rest of the fuel system setup shortly.   :)

No clearance.    If it gets any lower it will hit the distributor and the linkages.     I did some measuring and I don't think the foam style ones will have appreciably more clearance either.

.1" shorter than the current one.  ;)

Trust me, I did some research to find the best chance of clearance.    Short of building something custom, this is as good as it gets, and something low enough to clear would only be 1/4" above the choke tower.    It's not a race car, but I'd like to make sure all 4 barrels can get air.  ;)

So what are you saying? lol

Will there have to be a hole cut?

Yes, there will have to be a hole.

Hey Blake,
My scoop  is the Cobra Jet style. Has a low profile but maintains some sense of stock look.

I cut off about 4" from the back of the scoop and opened the front.
My hole in the hood is about 1/4 in larger circumference than the air cleaner. With a K&N cloth filter I've not had any problems driving in the rain.
Actually with the slope of the hood I've not even seen water trails go into the scoop area. I think it literally blows over the top. (I can't completely confirm that as I don't have a wind tunnel to test. LOL)

The pictures show my old Edelbrock foam cleaner but I currently have an 8" Chrome similar to the one you show with a K&N filter.

I think Don's scoop looks pretty good, and getting some cool air to that v6 will probably make a significant difference in power as well.

For clearance though, MAYBE something like this would work?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/GM-V8-350-305-TBI-VORTEC-AIR-INTAKE-FILTER-KIT-SYSTEM-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem51984d4863QQitemZ350447552611QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

I'm pretty sure those GM TBI lids have the same diameter as the carb mount.

Ordered up the brackets from Granny's for the alternator and power steering, and the lower radiator hose.

Received the crank balancer (both were internally balanced style), and the timing pointer.

Need to get that stuff installed, install the oil and water temp senders and get some fluids in it.   Should be nearly ready to start.   :)

edit:  Just ordered up the Dakota Digital and Integra Speedo to make the factory gauges function fully with this setup.   :)    Just need an N/A rear driveshaft flange and to get the driveshaft modified (and to get out there and get to work!) and we should be heating coolant.

I used the '79-82 mustang/capri  replica scoop on my carbureted SBC build . Scoop "mimics" the T2 scoop .

Do you still plan on using the ECU to control the transmission? Looks good!

It's not an ECU controlled transmission.   :)    That was the pivotal part of my decision to run a carb on it.

Thanks!
