only problem with the rpm is it is standard bore (whatever the one is that all the holes are the same size) and my carb is spread bore. so that add an adapter which is another 1". with the performer i can skip the adapter and have a lower intake. i want to keep it as low profile as possible, so the lower the better. and it's a 106'000 mile stock 350, i doubt I'll be making much power anyway.

Dude it is awesome that you are doing all this at the age of 15.

I do have one question however.  What are your performance goals with this setup?

pretty much just something thats fun to drive. something that has a little more get up and go then my honda civic. i plan to upgrade to ls1/t56 as soon as i can afford it, then i can make some real power. and it's almost not even driving the car, i just love building these things.

Finally, some progress. (i know this stuff is small, but i'm excited about it) so far this week i've gotten the motor bolted together(for the most part) and am startiing on the wirng. i finally got a battery hooked back up to the chassis, and to my delight all the lights work!! (was afraid prev. owner stripped it) it doesn't have any head lights (knew that) but the rest work. check it out:

The carbon build up in the manifold is from not having a shield like a stock manifold (blast it off).  Also the PO probably didnt close one side off (heat riser) as most directions say to do.  The performer will do fine, my camaro w/3.08 and low horse 350 w/ performer and q jet will burn'm for as long as you want.  Finally finished paint, but still think you'll be done first.  Keep it up and get it done.  ++++++++++++++

maybe after i get it running. i really want to just drive it. but if i end up having to pull the engine for something again I'll definitely clean it up. how do you get the emissions harness out? it looks like a lot of work to get it separated from the firewall. and yeah my dad told me what it was after i pulled it off. the motor i got it off of was my dad's old suburban motor, it had a cracked head so we pulled it. it looks like i have next to no room for an air filter though.

How much lower do you think the carb will sit with the performer intake manifold...?

it looks to be around an inch. i still will have to work some magic to get an air cleaner on it though. the hood does clear the carb, i just don't know how much. i finally got a job cleaning up a local machine shop, i start Monday, so this project will finally get under way. if it is in anyway possible, i don't want to cut any holes in the hood. but i have yet to see a carbed setup fit under an na hood.

SWEET!, nice small block car haha, i know this all started with small chevy swaps, but it seems like everyones is lsx now (which isn't a bad thing;) but it nice to see another one, looks good, keep your eyes out of a 6 speed tho, they can handle way more power, and with the carb get way better fuel millage ;) looking good tho!

mine does...;)  But its a sbf in an fb, however I do have a performer intake! LOL.  Nice build you've got going, definitely will be a fun ride for sure.  I just finished my 3 month build a few weeks ago and took it to the track, with a stock 302 from an explorer my car ran high 12's, so I'm sure you'll be close to that as well.  Then mods/nitrous and you'll be pretty quick.

Keep us updated, wish I took a bunch of pics/did this, but I was just rushing to drive the damn thing, lol.

lol, i ran out of money, so had plenty of time to take pics. my dad just got his own shop and gave me a set of keys, so i may move it down there and get going on it again. and i think i may put the manual rack back in, block off the a/c stuff, and just run an alternator with the sbc. i don't know how i'll fund it, but i would really like to upgrade to a 5.3/t56 combo after i get the chassis figured out with the sbc. I don't see the point in spending money on a/c and power steering lines for pumps that won't stay long.

Alright, got a pretty decent sized update. I got the car moved down to my dad's shop, and have been working on it after school when possible. I also got a job at the local Dairy Queen, so now i have some cash to dump into this thing. I bought a parts car that has the 5 lug stuff and a t2 rear end, i just haven't picked it up yet. I got the manual rack put back in, and the emissions harness removed, and am starting wiring. My goal is to have it drivable by may 27th, as that is the seniors last day (I have a lot of senior friends) and i want to prove that this car isn't just a pipe dream. It has sat far too long, it is time to enjoy it. It may not have any gauges working except the tach, no ac, no heat, possibly no exhaust, but it will be drivable lol. The only pics i have for now are the two i took following my friend on the way to the shop. And one of my Civic, i got some new wheels lol.

Hey man you have excellent work ethic, which is too be admired in today's day and age!  It seems like you should be driving this thing in time for seniors last day just make sure you don't do a burnout in the school parking lot, they don't like that it turns out. hahaha

Haha yeah the cops around here are too bored, I'd be lucky if i could get away with no exhaust for more then a couple hours. Maybe if i shut it off and coast by every time i see one lol.
