I'm super busy at the moment.   Part of the reason I left it vague was so that people wouldn't get in over their heads.

Next time my car is in the air I'll get some pictures of the routing through the fender.   :)

I kinda got that feeling while reading some of the responses. I think im going to just 'dive' into it tomorrow.

Im pretty confident in my skills, but Ive never done anything this drastic (wiring related).

Next up is what circuits you can pull out and how, what to extend and how/where to extend it to, and how to route the harness through the fender out of the way.

:)

Would you mind updating this Blake? Im in the middle of wiring and would love to simplify my harness.

It turns out mine is going to be pretty straight forward. I have no power locks, windows, sunroof, abs, fog lights, and the simple power steering setup. All I really needed in the front is headlight retractors, headlights, relays, and turn signals. Once I have the dash back in with the car actually running and all the hvac worked out, ill tuck the harness. I just want to be able to test wires while im working, which I cant do right now.

Is there a similar thread like this that deals with the harness inside the car?

what do you do for the hood release?
Is it just routed along with the wiring ?

I don't have a hood release on my car.

I did my tuck 6 or so months back and am SUPER happy with it. I just got to testing everything out (yeah I know I have a little too much faith in my work lol) and everything works EXCEPT my headlights. What else to I need to check before digging into my wiring? The relay is connected (and you can hear it click when the head light switch is turned to "on"), the fuse looks good... I don't know what else it could be. Do I need to have any other relays connected other than the 1 for the headlights? I really don't suspect wiring to be the case as everything was soldered, heat shrinked and then taped (though I'm not the best at soldering I guess...).

I'd check out power at the switch, that's usually the issue.  That and verify continuity through the relay when it's on.

Did anyone ever do this to an FD.  ID really like it done to my car and mine has no interior or front clip so it would be pretty easy.

You should have told me to check my headlight switch to make sure I didn't have my high beams (that I don't have) on. Oops... working great now  :D

So I'm trying to thin out the wiring harness on my FC. So far I've identified all the connectors I need. I could use a little help in how to get the harness out of the engine bay and into the car. In your pictures, it seems like you've managed to bring the harness into the car without cutting the connectors yet. Or do I need to cut the connectors, get rid of the loom/tape, and pull the wires from inside the car, and then remove the grommet? Does the grommet come out last, after the wires have been pulled inside, or do I just need to push it in from the engine bay side with a dowel/screwdriver?

I managed to remove the dash, and steering column to make some room. Also unplugged the CPU and moved the wiring out of the way.

Are the front harness wires hard wired into the fuse box, or is there a connector on the back? I unbolted the fuse box, but the wiring is so tight in there that it can barely budge. Any advice?

Also, do I have to undo the plastic formers?

I jammed my hand back there behind the fuse box and it seems that it is fastened in some manner. I removed the 10mm nut on the bottom of the fuse box. Is there another that I can't see, or maybe a plastic clip?

Am I even correct in assuming that I need to take the fuse box out in order to thin out the front harness? Cuz it sure looks like it's in the thick of things there in the corner, and having access to it would help .. ?
