More clutch issues
« on: August 02, 2024, 12:36:10 PM »
After the clutch swap from hell this winter, running into a new problem, now with the hydraulics.
I’ll bleed the clutch, then it takes 10-15 pedal pumps with the system closed to get full pressure back (which doesn’t seem right).  After this clutch seems to work fine no matter how I drive it, then after sitting for a week or so, clutch starts out fine, then I lose pedal engagement until there’s basically no pressure and the clutch won’t disengage.  It’s got a tick remote bleeder on it, and every time I bleed it there are a couple small bubbles, but I can’t see a leak or fluid anywhere.  It has a Hinson modified wildwood master cylinder, and brand new slave, clutch disk, etc.

If it’s the master cylinder, what even are options at this point?  I don’t think the Hinson MC’s are great, but they weren’t that expensive and it sounds like they aren’t making them anymore.  I’m about ready to push the thing into the ocean and swear off manual transmissions.

Have you tried vacuum bleeding at the master?

I had a hell of a time getting mine bled after replacing the slave.
I finally had to use a rubber stopper with a fitting, and pull a vacuum on the reservoir for several days.
I'd pull the vacuum and pump the pedal several times a day until I finally got a firm pedal.

I had issues too, though vacuum didn't work for me, I had to use a pressure bleeder.

I haven’t used a vacuum, I guess that’s worth a shot before trying to tear stuff apart.  It has bled a little quicker each time, so hopefully that’s all it is.  Still trying to wrap my head around how such a simple system could have so many gotten air pockets, oh well.  Thanks for the suggestion.

I generally use a Power Bleeder for all hydraulics.   I have the Motive Power Bleeder.  Has worked really well for me.
