I co-own a small company that makes hi-perf starters for classic muscle cars. We got a call from a kid who inherited a GTO from his dad.
He said it's got one of our starters, the starter is bad and he needs us to fix it.
My partner asked him "So does the starter crank the engine slowly, not at all, just click, or what?"
Kid's reply: "No, it spins the engine really fast, but the car doesn't start."
My partner: "Then the starter's fine, you've probably got a fuel or ignition problem."
Kid: "No, it's called an ENGINE STARTER. If the the engine DOESN'T START, then the ENGINE STARTER isn't working right! Why else would it be called an ENGINE STARTER?"
Partner: "By golly, you're right! It should probably be called an Engine Cranking Motor. Still can't help you though, sorry."
I swear to god this conversation really happened. The kid was dead serious.
