17x9 questions
« on: April 08, 2024, 05:16:08 PM »
Alright, I am looking to buy some wheels...
I currently have some knock off mustang gt (saleen?) wheels.  I think they're 17x8.  Currently have 245 rubber on them.
I want to stay with a square setup.  Trying to figure out offset and everything is very challenging.

17x9 seems to be what many on here really like.  I originally considered staying 17x8, but who wouldn't mind an extra inch?  lol.

Wheels I'm looking at are Konig Hypergram 17x9.  I see +25 offset and +40 offset.

Looking at fc3s pro:
https://fc3spro.com/TECH/MODS/RT/rims.htm

They say +15 front  (20 max) is the recommended, but would require over fenders.  And, +30 for the back.

So, this makes me think the +25 might work?

Any suggestions?  My goal was a lightweight wheel that looks okay.

Current wheel.

They're insane heavy, bent, not well balanced (guy balancing them was like... wtf, it's soooo bent and weight is uneven all over)

17x9 +25 will be pretty wide up front.   Should fit fine out back if you have rolled fenders, depending on your tire choice.

The +40 might be a better fit up front, but it's been a minute since I sized FC wheel offsets.  What tires are you looking at, size wise?

I currently have 245/40z17.

I have no requirement around the tires, but 255 would be to be able to run a little more tire.

Would it be better for me to stick to 17x8?
With the offset stuff, it sounds like I'd need different offsets for front and back, right?

I have a hard time imagining the 17x9, because the 17x8 (i think) already seems so big.

Attaching current wheel.
Does this mean it's a 17x10?  Measuring from inside of wheel....

Showing front fender.  The back I'm less worried about.  I actually think my back ones could come out just a little bit.

You likely have 17x9 Cobra knock off wheels.

Ahh, that's it.  Not saleen, cobra.  ugh.  lol.

17x9 already, any idea what the offset on these is?  The fit pretty well up front, but the rear I wish would be out just slightly more.

I currently have KYB AGX and Racingbeat springs.  I think the tire is like a few mm away from the spring up front.

So, I was looking at:
https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/official-fc-wheel-fitment-thread-257700/page246/

Seeing someone running enkei rpf1 17x9+22, and it just barely pokes.  So, if I ran the +25, it should be fine.... right?

+22 to +25 should work.  Depending on tire size you might need a fender roll and pull and -2deg camber in the front.

I currently have 17x9 Cobra R knockoffs like you.  I have 255/275 stagger and had to roll/pull front and just roll the rear.  Also have coilovers with -2deg camber in front or so.

Awesome, thanks!
I decided to just go for and ordered.  I have fortune auto 500 coming that have the adjustable tops, so I should be able to put negative camber in.

my 17x9 cobra r knock offs are okay... but, so bent, insanely heavy and trashed.  Bought them from a guy whose wife didn't like the 'chrome'.  $100 for all 4, and they came with proxie tires?  Something like that.

I like the look of them overall.
