I did a road trip that ended up around 2000miles, it was right after the swap too. The mpg in 6th on the highway combined with the light weight was pretty stellar on the wallet filling up.

Wow where to and over how many days?

Kinger, I'm trying to decide the best way to add cruise control. Did you use an aftermarket setup (like Rostra?) or did you adapt stock GM stuff?

I will add that I had no cruise control or AC in my car, at the time it still had PS/ABS but now those are gone too. If I do a long trip again which I would like to after it's all sorted, some kind of electric AC and maybe e-PS would be something to add beforehand.

I'm in Canada on the west coast, and it was a bit of a scenic drive and stopping to visit family/friends along the way with driving time being about 12hrs for the longest stint - only I was driving too. Vancouver, BC to Edmonton, AB and then down to Calgary, AB before heading back to Vancouver with some small detours. If I do another road trip, I'd like to go down the west coast again and maybe stop along tracks for some fun with probably San Diego being the furthest point south before heading back. I've done it in a MK4 Supra before, but we only went as far as LA. It was a fun trip, especially with +700hp on tap at the time.

I used a 1996 caprice cruise module.  Then in the interior i wired up two momentary switches that light up when activated.  Buttons are mounted on steering column plastic. Very small and discrete. Couldn’t stand the look of stalks plus i have a removable momo wheel.

For cruise I'm using an aftermarket ECU and DBW. Didn't have it for the long trip though. Hip comfort was a concern.

Good info Kinger, thanks!
Exidous, I can see DBW as an advantage with cruise, as it's all done with software rather than having an extra electrical box and throttle cable under the hood. I've got an LS1 with cable throttle so I'll go with something similar to Kinger's. I can definitely relate to the hip pain.

Could go to a C5 Vette ECU and harness so the 24x is plug n play but that generation wasn't the greatest.
Many GM cruise boxes from the 90's will work.

I've got a cruise box from a '98 Camaro, which is same year as my ECU, so wiring should be pretty easy. The box is surprisingly big and the cable from it is a fixed length, so doing a clean looking installation will be a bit of a challenge. Would rather keep it in the engine compartment, as I truly hate working under the dash.

Kinger, where did you mount your cruise box?

Perfect pics, thanks!

I'm thinking either there or similar location on passenger side. Where you have it is the same area it's mounted in the Camaro, if I remember right.

I like your push buttons, too. Very clean install.

Yup limited with the cable routing. Only so many places.

The switches light up blue as well when  engaged.  There is a complete write up in my garage thread if you need help with the wiring.

I'll be sure to look at your thread, thanks for heads up on that. Lots easier to copy what's been done before than try to reinvent the wheel.

Bit late here, but drove the rx7 cross country for moves every time.  Norfolk, Virginia to San Diego, then back to Maryland.  Got about 29 mpg with the LS1.  Only issue I had was an optima battery dying in Texas, but gassed up without shutting down and made it to an autozone.

That being said I was driving the car a lot at that time.  Now I feel like I gotta fix something small every other time I drive it.

Years ago went from Myrtle Beach, SC to Indy and back for one of the SNS events.

Had an absolute blast meeting a lot of the guys from this community.
