Long Tube Header question FD LS1
« on: March 20, 2023, 01:09:34 PM »
I know Ronin makes the best product but they are $1441 plus shipping.  JTR has some 1 3/4" mild steel long tubes for $720.   I don't have any power adders on my engine currently but I'd like to get rid of the hack job welded stock manifolds i have and get something nicer.  Are the JTR headers still good?  I could get them ceramic coated for not too much.

I had them years ago. They did the job well enough.

for my build I am having difficulty seeing that the ronin headers would give me an additional $700 worth of value

The price from Ronin is good for stainless, but the JTR work fine.

In my opinion JTR > Ronin for headers

I have the Ronin headers on my samberg swapped fd, they make contact with the engine cradle has anyone else had this issue?

They are beautiful headers!

You gotta bust out the BFH and pry bar and make some space. Dent the header tube, bash the floor where needed.

Oilpan to steering rack clearance is going to be real tight.

Ive run both Ronin and JTR. Im running 1 7/8 JTR's on my fc and have run plenty of 1 3/4's on both FC an FD. Passenger floor needs a little bit of clearancing on the FC but no too much. Ronin headers are nice too and also will require some clearancing on the FD. Not sure that there is any measurable difference in power between the two.

Charlie, you didn’t find the Ronin headers to be to low to the ground?  I had a pair, I felt the fitment and quality were very good but they are just too low to the ground.  The headers would be great for cars at stock height, and track cars but they just don’t work for a street driver.  Just my opinion.  I recently went to a set of 1 7/8 stainless Sikky headers.  Requires some minor mods to the subframe on the right side but they fit and the quality of them is very good.

Hey Paul, I've seen the comments about the Ronin headers being low and so far have not had any issue with clearance. The builds I've done with them have been FD's on Ohlins coilovers set to recommended specs so, lowered but not super low. No clearance issues even on one that has been torture tested by a young man that shows absolutely no mercy whatsoever.

I am on s14 240sx build now running Sikky headers and agree the build quality is nice.

Definitely a tradeoff there with primary length.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent amount of torque loss in the midrange.  Paul - is the rest of your engine combo the same minus the headers?  Would love to see a before/after of the Sikky vs any of the other longtubes on the market.

I do like that fitment quite a lot.

I haven’t changed anything else, not even the tune. The only difference is Sikky headers vs JTR long tubes, and now there are no cats.  Should I be concerned about the tune?

You'll want to get it retuned yeah. It'll be fine to drive but the fuel curve will need adjustment.

There is absolutely a loss of low and midrange with the sikky. It's noticeable. Up top they seem comparable. Between jtr and Ronin I'd bet power to be within a couple HP of each other across the whole power band.

I didn't like the sikky being made of 18ga stainless. They dent super easy. They also have the passenger side facing out way to much. So much clearance on the inside wasted. Great quality though.
