Civic Calipers on FD
« on: May 02, 2022, 12:22:38 PM »
I have seen a break kit for the FD that uses Honda Type-R FK Brembo calipers. Dics are 360x32.

Anyone come across this setup before?

It's just an ebay kit, nothing fancy. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265191190532

I guess a conversation needs to be had regarding brake balance and pedal travel.

You'll most certainly need a brake bias adjuster with a 360mm disc up front. I'd love a lot like this that also had something for the rear and allowed a parking brake.

seems like a nice alternative to get some bigger brakes up front.   I'd like to get a kit together to put some big brakes all around.  There are a lot of cars out there with big brakes to get from salvage yards.  Just making the adaptor that lines everything up properly and getting larger rotors that fit properly is the trick.    Nice thing about the kit you linked is the work has already been done.

330's in the rear should do ya

You may be right, but it's not really a "budget" option. Which is kind of the point of going with existing OE stuff IMO.

the best to find is a set of stock like brembo calipers that are a two piece.  Caliper and mounting bracket.  Calipers (like our stock calipers) with the built in mounting brackets are harder to retrofit.   I had a BMW Z3 M Roadster and got 135i 6 piston calipers and was able to modify the mounting bracket to get them to work on the M.   I think Porsche 911 calipers are like that as well.  Its easier to just have a new bracket that goes between the caliper and the knuckle.   I think there are some threads out there on doing Porsche brakes.

I have also since read of a 350z rotor / cts-v caliper combo. Again, very little actual info out there though.

if i had 3D models of the knuckle/Hub and rotors, calipers I could easily draw up a bracket to adapt to whatever caliper.

This is the style of caliper that works best.  The bolt on mounting bracket.  Then all you have to do is make a new mounting bracket that puts the caliper in the correct location.

Knowing what will and won't work in terms of rotors is the bigger unknown. It sounds like they always need machining.

yeah I don't know where to get larger rotors that fit..  Or what larger rotors that fit are even available.   I often look at PB Brakes (www.PBBrakes.com)  They can sell just a set of 356mm rotors.  Their Full on big break kits aren't terribly priced though either.

I have looked into making a kit 100 times probably.  I think if i got the rotors figured out first then i could worry about the calipers which should be easier.

I reached out to PB brakes and they can sell the rotors for $640 for 356mm front set with $200 shipping.  I found some nice calipers from a C63 AMG for $450 add pads and parts for that another $100.  Still have to make/design a mounting bracket for that.  So even for a “cheap” setup that’s going to be like $1600.   Can buy the whole shebang from PB for $1875 shipped that’s brand new calipers, sport pads, SS pistons in the caliper, custom powder coated, SS brake lines, and no work trying to figure things out.

Another option:
https://www.rx7club.com/suspension-wheels-tires-brakes-20/evo-brembo-direct-bolt-fd3s-869170/
Probably need to swap to a 929 master as the pistons one the evo caliper are much bigger than stock.

I ended up buying a CTR caliper to prototype a BBK for my RX8 so if anyone needs specific dimensions on the CTR caliper let me know.
