I’ll look into it.  I’m not a fan or want to be in an area that is prone to natural disasters.  Lol

Anywhere not on the coast of NC or SC has very little natural disasters, just bad thunderstorms.  Would never live in Florida lol, my parents are actually retiring to the coast of NC instead

I know Exidous said to skip the west entirely, but I really like living in north western Nevada (Reno area -- I live in Carson City, about 30 miles south). We do have snow in the winters, but winters are really pretty mild. No natural disasters to speak of, some earthquake risk.

Tons of outdoor activities, mountain biking, snow and water skiing, hiking, dirt bike / atv riding, and Lake Tahoe is 30 minutes away. No state income taxes, other taxes reasonable, and Bay Area of Northern Cali about 4 hours away. Track days at Thunder Hill are frequent and reasonable, about 4 hours away.

Construction jobs are booming in the Reno area, as well.

Nevada is still okay. I meant just those three states. Idaho is really nice too. Boise is an awesome City.

Having just visited Raleigh. It's pretty nice, old town america feel, but lots of tech industry stuff there too. Hdqtrs of IBM and some others. College town freshness with Duke and UNC right there.

Not sure where the most 'development' is right now, in terms of construction jobs. I see a lot of new buildings going up in central MD, but prices here are awful, and it's deceptively crowded too. DC/Baltimore Metro area has the same population (basically) as Chicago-land.

^ No sir!  Let’s not start talking politics.  The current leader or leaders of the other parties all suck IMO.  Canada is a great country lead by morons.  Lol.

Good luck, and welcome to America.

Yeah because Canada is excluded from the rest of the continent

Hello guys, in need of some advice/any info that you could give.

I’m contemplating moving myself and my wife and kids to Florida.  I haven’t nailed down an exact location but we want to stay alittle inland to avoid getting affected by hurricanes.
First, I’ve calculated that I need a job that pays 50-60k, with medical insurance.  I noticed homes are 400-600k which is totally doable since my home here in Toronto is paid for.

I would be looking for work in construction project management, or finishing supervisor of large projects.  I’m also willing to do other jobs, and definitely willing to learn, love new challenges.

Haven’t looked at a working visa yet or citizenships.   Wondering how difficult it is to immigrate to the US.  Is it easier to get in by opening a business in a local community?

We are just tired of the life here in Toronto, it’s become overwhelming.  All we do here is work to pay the bills, every year that passes it gets worse and a good future for our children looks tough.

Also the cold weather for 6 months is getting annoying.  Lol

Thanks in advance!

I live in Florida.  I’m not sure what areas you are looking in, but you can find a nice home in a good neighborhood in Jacksonville for 200-300k.

A 50k + job shouldn’t be hard to find. If you are in construction, there’s a lot of home building going on here.
We have no state income tax, but residential property taxes tend to be higher than other states from what ive seen.

Summers are humid and hot.
Winters are mild. No snow, but we do get some 30 degree days.

Hurricanes in north east Florida are probably less likely than coastal towns in the Carolinas for what it’s worth. We are kinda tucked away in a corner and storms usually follow the Gulf Stream further north if they come up this way.

Thanks for all the info everyone :).....I'm still doing my research but what I have found is that I either pay 10k per person to an immigration lawyer or I find a company that would hire me and take care of a working visa.  Other then that its very difficult to make a move legally, I know there are other ways but I don't want to be worried about immigration knocking at my door.  Not giving up, but its not as easy as I would have thought given that I would be coming with money and a skill that would make me employable.   I had to hire a nanny to watch my kids last year, and she came from the Philippines, that took a lot of work and effort to get approved because I had to prove that I couldn't find a Canadian to do the job.  Anyhow, still going on with life as is....going to take some online courses to improve myself in the meantime!

My wife is Filipino, and $10K is about what we spent in total to get her permanent residence, and eventually her US Citizenship.  Filing fees alone on some of the forms are well over $1,000 each.

We're totally opposed to illegal immigrants, but the process for doing it legally is overly complex and expensive as it is.

My buddies cousin lives in FL and I know you are a motivated guy Paul!  He owns a construction company that builds shopping malls and 7 Elevens; however he needs someone with BRAINS that can help him do other things that contribute to those projects..... you should call me and reach out to him!  He lives in Fort Myers/Cape Coral.  He is a baller.... and has quite a few people on his payroll making $250K+ year.  He just wants someone that is trustworthy and works HARD.  He also has his own lawyer on retainer......

I was down there on a visit to fish/hang out in 2019..... on his Nortech "fishing" boat that has triple 400R outboard engines and goes 80mph!  I drove it and this boat kicks ass!  You should definitely call me.... because if I lived in Florida I would work for Dan!  He is a smart SOB and loves to make $$$$$$.

Hope you've had all your shots since the USA is getting REAL ID which is an ID that shows your vaccine history and certain states will not allow you to travel in them if you are not up to date coming in oct 2020
