What are our mount kit options now for the FD?
« on: May 13, 2019, 12:06:26 PM »
So my car has a home made kit I would like to replace with something a little nicer.   Samberg left the planet and in turn Ronin no longer has mount kits for the FD.  Sikki I don't like how their kit uses the stock sub frame.   Not super interested in the old hinson stuff.

So what do we have left?  Hoping Ronin will come out with a solution?

I didn't miss it.  Well I did miss it, I didn't think they would sell so quickly and I didn't have the spare cash at the time.  I guess I am not in a rush to replace what I have, so I can hold out for the next big thing.  I do hope Ronin or someone will come out with the next latest and greatest but still cost the same :)

Joel here from Ronin.  Just noting that yes, we're starting work on an FD subframe design.  We actually are in process of setting up a survey to get your opinions about what's important for these...

Hi Joel,

Three things I can think of that would improve the existing subframe:

1) Cutouts/holes to drain water from the water traps underneath the motor mount brackets.
2) We don't need +/- 10 degrees of camber adjustment, the standard Mazda cam adjusters are fine. We have had the large cams move several times with hard track use despite overtorquing the adjuster bolts, sure scares the hell out of you when it happens halfway round a curve.
3) There is scope for slightly more exhaust clearance against the rear legs.

I would like to see a better motor mount used.  I'll likely never change subframes unless mine shits the bed, but I'm thinking about redesigning the motor stands to allow for a larger and hopefully more isolating engine mount design to see if it helps a bit with vibration absorption.

It'll be a bit of an experiment.  We'll see if it accomplishes anything.

I think I'll also be able to lower the engine at least 1/4".
