Crashed my daily... looking for a new daily
« on: April 29, 2019, 09:29:08 AM »
So, long story short, I crashed my DD Focus ST.    My fault.    Anywho, it appears to be totaled, so I’m looking for new cars, which is the only fun part of the whole deal.

Right now I’m looking very strongly at a 2016 BMW 428i xDrive Gran Coupe.    30k miles and 2 years of warranty (CPO).     I looked at a 2012 Panamera 4S and liked it a lot (68k miles) but I feel like one of those is dangerous for long term reliability.

Anyone have any thoughts on the stuff in that general class?   I’m looking to spend around 25-35k, for something that seats 4, is AWD or RWD and fairly nice inside.    So far nothing US made has really ticked the boxes and Ford can bite me since they are killing their cars anyway.

Damn, that sucks about your accident. Hopefully you came out without injury.
I think you can get a 2015+ Chevy SS for within your budget. The Mag Ride is pretty comfy and drives well. And you get LS3 reliability and the option for a manual trans.

I hope you're ok Blake.  Do you not like the ATS or CTS?  I am super impressed with 2010+ BMWs,  I would look at the 5 series too but they may be too expensive.

I absolutely love my M235i. It’s a 2015 and a stick shift. Bought it August last year from a dealer. Tons of lease return CPO vehicles out there that are in primo condition.

My Same thoughts as everyone else Blake - I really hope you're OK and so is everyone else involved.

Moving forward - How bout this Bra?????  It's real fast - You can leave late and still get to work early.  And get way too much attention and nothing but compliments and looks and pictures taken.  So if you are asking me - This is my suggestion Bra.

my buddy got a 2014 435i and loves it.  I would go for a 335/435 if you can find a good deal on one.  That straight 6 turbo is a great motor and it is pretty detuned from the factory.  Its easy to get 100 more HP out of it with very few mods and still remains drivable and reliable.

I got a 2006 BMW 650i 4.8l V8 6-speed as my daily. 360 factory rated HP.  I love driving it.  Its a really comfortable and smooth touring car.  Has a huge trunk also (good for dead bodies).   My wife has a 328d x-drive sedan.  That is pretty nice.  The diesel gets 48mpg and has 240hp so its no slouch and its pretty comfortable to drive.  I prefer my 6 series over it but I only get like 18mpg.

I agree with MP also a 235i would be a sweet ride.  If that was in my budget for a daily, I surely would have one.

CTS V-Sport.  CTS size, TT v6 making 420hp/430tq, can be found in the mid 20's.

Nice!  I hadn't heard of this trim level, I'd always lusted after the CTS-V.  Looks like these are only available with an automatic transmission through.

I'm at the point where I prefer an auto for the daily commute.  Getting old sucks.

I'm a little concerned about long term reliability on the GM TT V6.   Just not enough data points on it for my taste right now.   Otherwise I'd be all about it.

I'm really leaning hard toward the 428i.   The 435i is quicker, but honestly, I'm not sure I care at this point.   The 28 gets better gas mileage and if I wanna go fast, I'll just drive the Mustang, ya know?   Haha.   damn I'm old.

LOL, that's fair.

The BMW has a HUD that includes the stereo...  :D

Oh and I was completely fine.  Not a scratch.    Go Focus for safety!    I ran a 5k the next morning, in fact!   I appreciate the well wishes!

With regard to the 2 series, I TOTALLY would, but 4 doors is more convenient with a kid, and the 428i GC has a nice combo of "looks like a coupe but has 4 doors" and I like the style better than the 3ers.   It does annoy me that they call it a 4 door coupe, even if a coupe is technically a "style" not a door count.

Even still I walk up to my car looking for the back door sometimes lol. I like that it’s small, but the back seat would be a lot more convenient with a door to toss stuff into lol.

Make sure you drive both the 4 and 6 cyl. The 6 is a pleasure to drive as it’s always in power and the turbo is nearly seamless. I’ve only driven the 235 but I get a sense that Bimmers are pretty cookie cutter. If it’s what you want I don’t think you can go wrong with any of them.

I got an n55 335i 11 stick and have put 50k hard miles on it in 2 years(I drive ~2 hrs everyday M-F on desolate state roads). Really have enjoyed the car. We also have a 17 320 and its just so slow in comparison very happy with the purchase. It's a great platform I have boltons (chargepipes catless intercooler) plus a mhd backend flash surprises a lot of people.
