1993 R1 LS1 Swap
« on: February 20, 2019, 07:47:06 AM »
So a little background here. This is my 2nd FD and the first one with an LS Swap. I bought the car sight unseen from a guy in NH with the goal of turning this into a full show car and back road cruiser. He was the 2nd owner after the swap was done and was not able to provide me a build sheet on it so some of the info is going to be pieced together but I will lay out what I know.

The Good:
*Clean title and no signs of any damage to the car that either myself, or my mechanic could find.
*Car runs and drives perfect! If you have never been in one with a V8 it's a hell of a good time!
*LS1 out of a 99 Corvette. Said the engine pull was at 63k miles.
*Just had over $3k worth of work done to the engine. New gaskets all around, replaced the water and power steering pump, new fluids in the tranny and diff. Told my mechanic to replace everything that needed it and make the car as reliable as possible. Can provide reciept.
*Samberg radiator but unable to tell the rest of the swap kit but I do believe it is all Samberg.
*Dyno tuned on HP Tuner by one of the best in TN at 5th Gear automotive in Hermitage. Made 366 to the rear wheel on a CONSERVATIVE tune and TQ was instant and smooth.
*Car is original BB but has a matte grey wrap on it. Jams and all.
*Tein coilovers
*RP03's with good rubber on them
*Upgraded brakes and all stainless lines
*Headers were taken off media blasted and cera-coated and fit like a glove! No firewall or trans tunnel beating at all!
*Nur Spec exhaust
*Upgraded HID headlight conversion

The Bad:
*Don't know the milage exactly. Best estimate is around 94k
*Once I got the car I immediately realized that it was going to take a lot of work to get it to show car winning status. After buying a ton of new parts I have honestly lost motivation to continue on this car. I think this one is best suited for someone who wants a track car or is happy with it as it sets and does not want to turn it into a show car.
*The hood and bezel on the car were in rough shape so I took the whole cluster out. I have already bought and paid for new custom SpeedHut guages from Toby Broadfield at Broadfield Customs. He is the best in the business as far as I am concerned. This is about $1400 worth of gauges and work that I will include in the deal.
*The front bumper does not sit right and will require some work. This has thrown the headlights off so the gaps look like crap.
*HVAC controls do not work properly as the "guts" behind them need to be replaced.
*Car rides hard and rough due to spring rates higher than I would like (my friends think I'm crazy but I want you to have my opinion)

The Interesting:
As I said I have purchased innumerable amounts of new parts for this car I was going to replace. I would prefer to sell everything as one big package deal:
*Brand New OEM 99 spec bumper
*Shine Auto OEM style side skirts new
*Shine Auto hybridcarbon 99 spec twill weave front lip new
*Shine Auto twill weave carbon fender vents new
*Redline Goods alcantara shift boot, hand brake boot, hand brake cover & center console cover (super nice)! New
*Two sets of 99 spec combo light. One brand new never installed set from Garage Alpha. One Depo set used but in great condition.
*NRG v4.0 quick release hub brand new
*NRG leather D shape steering wheel brand new
*LS Swap thermal shift plate custom made by Matt Korthis new
*3 different shift knobs
*Brand New OEM Hood, Bezel, & Lenses. Might be the last brand new one in the Mazda system!
*Brand New OEM HVAC panel
*Brand New OEM shifter panel.
*Brand New BubbleTech map lid
*Brand New OEM DS and PS window switches
*Brand New OEM aluminum door handles
*Brand New OEM HVAC knobs
*Brand New OEM door triangles
*Brand New OEM outside door lock covers
*Brand New OEM outside window trim moulds
**Slightly used full titanium Powerhouse Amuse exhaust system (just bought from THETECH on his partout)* will sell separate
**Brand New Forgestar F-14's with Hankook rubber (bought from forum)* will sell separate

There is a lot of other parts, both new and used that will come with the car. I will be updating list as I remember other parts. Absolutely everything I have will be included (except for double ** noted above)

I am NOT PARTING OUT at this point. Don't ask unless you want the titanium exhaust or Forgestar's.

Price of car with everything above in one big huge lump deal is going to be $25K. That's about a $8-$10k loss on my end. That's the price you pay when you play the game but this could be gold for someone with the time/money/interest.

I am in Nashville, TN 37203. Willing to work with anyone on pickup/transport.

Also willing to include the full titanium exhaust and Forgestar wheels (recent listed on this forum) at a large discount if you are interested in the complete package.

The Shine kit box is absolutely massive and requires freight delivery. I have never shipped wheels and tires before but whatever the price is I won't charge more.

Someone on clubrx7 found the original guy who did the swap and his breakdown of what has been done. No secrets with me so here it is.

After finding that original build sheet link and seeing all of the fun stuff done to the car I think this is an even better deal than I thought it was to begin with.

BUT as an added bonus I will now include the wheels/tires and full titanium Amuse exhaust at NO EXTRA COST! Those two items alone add another $4-5k in value to the deal. For $25k you are getting one hell of car and a ton of high quality parts.

I have my eye on another car so I want to make something happen as quick as I can before I miss out bit I'm not willing to take more of a hit than this.

That's it! Same car, different time.

So everything he has said is absolutely accurate. I have fixed all of the issues he addressed in the engine. It cost my $3100 to do this but it's now perfect. Apparently also a much better tune since we basically have a tuning genius here local.

Obviously it does have issues but all of the parts to fix everything is setting in a box ready to go to the new lucky owner. All of the parts he said he had are going with the car plus my huge list.

A potential buyer asked for more interior pics. Nashville has had rain for about a week straight and flooding everywhere but I did go out and take new pics this morning so the Google link has new photos for those interested.

I am 100% shocked at what I just read through to be honest with you I stopped after the build part of it as I figured the rest was just negotiations.

I would NEVER mislead anyone the way that I have been. I was told clean title, presented clean title and have a clean title. This is the absolute first I have heard about it.

It looks like the salvage was in 1995 but who knows what for? Could have been a theft, could have been anything. All I can tell you is this is around my 30th car and I can find nothing wrong with the body. No signs of work (aside from the swap). Both owners said they had the car inspected and both said it passed fine. I have inspected the car and had my mechanic inspected the car (whom I trust completely).

So I guess it comes down to do you think a car that has had a salvage title is worth less even though it's been on the road for 24 years with no issues since that "salvage" title.

With all of that being said I will now take $2k off of the price only because I feel it's right since I tried selling something I had no idea about. Not my fault at all but what are you going to do?

So $23k gets you a solid car (don't care what some title a few years back says) with brand new wheels/tires and a list of parts to make any car look new again. I hope someone sees the value in it all.

23k seems pretty reasonable to me.   If I was in the market, I'd think that's a good deal for what's presented...
Blake MF'ing McBride
1988 Mazda RX7 - Turbo LS1/T56/ProEFI/8.8/Not Slow...   sold.
1965 Mustang Coupe - TT Coyote, TR6060, modern brakes/suspension...
2007 Aston Martin V8 Vantage - Gen V LT4/TR6060, upper/lower pullies, headers, tune.
2021 Tesla Model 3 Performance - Stock...ish.

I have decided to list the car for sale with no extra parts. So if someone just wants a turn key car to start with and source their own parts they can. Price with no parts is $18.5k and this means you get the car in the condition I got it in. The cluster with the old style SpeedHut guages and below average hood/bezel is what you get.

Any parts you want to add to the deal can be negotiated for additional cost.

I will not be selling the other parts listed until the car sales incase someone decides they want the entire package.

Price drop to $20k for the entire package. At this price I am not willing to ship anything. You will need to be local or willing to fly to Nashville and rent a U-Haul with a car hauler and drive everything back. If you can't do that you can have whatever I can fit inside the car but I'm not messing with shipping so no bumper or wheels/tires.

I read that you dont want to part it out.

But I will ask - The OEM Shifter Panel - Does it have the clips on the underneath and will you sell it?

I bought brand new OEM clips with the shifter panel but I am not willing to sell unless someone buys the car at the $18.5 price point with none of the new parts. Thanks for your interest.
