New to boosted v8 so I need answers please
« on: January 27, 2019, 09:14:55 PM »
Hello, so last weekend I decided to 5.3 boost my FD. I had a few questions about fueling, bov, and turbo. I am aiming for 5-600whp so here are my questions:

1. Will a single Supra pump  (280 lpm) be  enough for  my  goal? I  am thinking  I will  use the supra pump and get a Bosch 044 inline as well to be 100% sure but just curious as I am not familiar with v8s.

2. I have a Greddy RS bov (40mm). Is that big enough or just get a 50mm?

3. I have a T04b25 turbo off a DT466. I cant find a compressor map, so has anyone ever used one on a 5.3? I am worried about major lag.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

1.    That pump is pushing its limits.
2.    Depends on turbo specs, but likely alright.
3.    What is the housing/wheels on that turbo?

Edit:   Looked up that turbo.   No, the compressor is not big enough for a 5.3.   I have two turbos with cold sides that size on my Coyote.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I will be looking into a bigger pump then for sure. Or the supra pump with an inline bosch. We will see.
Since that turbo is going to be too small, I guess a BW S475 it is then, so with that turbo, think my 40mm bov will suffice?

The 40mm will probably be fine unless you're running a ton of boost.  If you knock a little pressure back into the turbo, it's not the end of the world.

Don't go too crazy on the exhaust side on the S475, you can get some huge T6 turbine housings which can make it a little lazy on a 5.3.  :)

I just listed a turbo kit that would be ideal for a 5.3 in the for sale section.

Ok cool, I will save the money then and use my Greddy bov. As far as the turbo, I don't have many options for the exhaust side. Here is the one I am looking at though. The compressor map indicates that I will be fine at 500 whp with room to grow. Plus I read a lot of good feedback with this turbo on other forums.

Just out of curiosity, what else was done? I am doing stock bottom end, 862 heads, LS6 cam and beehive valve springs, hardened push rods, LS1 intake manifold, and ARP head bolts. Just a basic setup and running it until she blows. Then I will rebuild a nasty engine.

That's a bloody massive exhaust housing...     going to be a job to fit that and spool it.   If you have a stalled auto and want a drag car you're probably fine, if you want to spool that on the street without a lot of engine load, it's a bit questionable, especially on a small cam, stock head 5.3L, and even worse if you have a stick and stock rear gears.

T56 on 3.27. It will do 163 mph in 4th. Takes a bit to spool up, but once it does, it’s a fu**ing rocket. My buddies say it gives everyone a bit of hope, then I’m gone. Definitely a fun car to drive.

I'm referencing the original poster.  He linked a S475 with a T6 on a 1.32 A/R.   That's a big focker.
