Cooling turbo after car shut off

What's the best way to keep the fan running after the car shut off?

A capacitor? How much would be needed to run an average radiator fan for 5 mins?

Keeping just your rad fan running isn't going to do anything.

Most commonly you use a turbo timer, which actually just keeps the whole car running for a few minutes to circulate oil/coolant.

Is it water cooled or just oil cooled?

If you just want to run the cooling fan after key off, and you've wired your fan relay properly, it's a tuning setting in the ECU.

even running the fan will basically just cool the water in the radiator and likely will not have enough effect to cool the turbo. Many VW/Audi cars had small pumps run after the key is off to cycle coolant through turbos.

If you're also running an electric water pump and can keep that on the same timer as the fan, you might actually be in business. Water has to circulate for it to have any significant cooling impact. But like I said, what you really need to use is a turbo timer, which is a purpose-designed thing for this exact application.

At the end of the day, just don't beat on you car for 30-60 seconds before shut off.   Or if you're drag racing or whatever, let it idle for 30-60 seconds.    This is what a turbo timer does.   It's not hard to be a human turbo timer.

That what we do with our Buick V6 Turbos. no big deal. Even at the drags by the time you get back to the pits we shut it off.
