Hinson Long Tube headers fitment
« on: September 09, 2010, 01:07:17 AM »
Anybody have any reviews on the fitment of Hinson's LT headers?  I know Hayabusa has some serious issues but just wanted to see if
anybody else had similiar issues.  I'm debating on ordering either Hinson's setup or JTRs.  I've had JTR's in the past and they fit/work great with
very little messaging of the tranny tunnel.   I like the idea of a full stainless setup.

I had to do some pretty serious modification to get my 1 7/8" longtubes to fit in my FD. Notching the subframe, pounding some of the floorboard, relocated one oxygen sensor, and had to really grind down and reweld my steering shaft. When talking to them they said it was because my subframe was an older version.(2008)

They are an amazing looking header and id love to put a set on another car to see if they fit better for them.

I have sambergs LS2 subframe and it seems to leave me more space on the driveside than when I had hinson's subframe (old version as
well).

So I ended up buying  Hinson's setup, 1 7/8th full stainless. I  placed the order on Tuesday and recieved them on Thursday, free shipping to boot.  Brian was/is running a free shipping special this week. I couldn't pass up on a full stainless setup for 995 shipped to my door. Brian also sent me a seperate email assuring me that they would fit and that if there were any problems I could return them back within 30 days.  That sold me, as he was backing up his product.  JTR's setup, the 1 7/8 if iirc was 995+shipping for the ceramic coated headers, so for the same price, I went with the full stainless setup. As mentioned earlier I received them today and installed them in less than an hour. I didn't have to bang, cut, weld, curse at anything. I'll take some pics tomorrow.  On the driverside, I installed them from up top, after taking off the sparkplugs, coilpacks, and the 2 fuel rail cover attachment bolts. On the passenger side I had to install them from underneath, removed everything as mentioned above, but had to also remove one of the starter bolts.  I'll try to get some pics for you guys tomorrow.  BTW I'm running Samberg's ls2 subframe, so from my experience the hinson LT's work with sambergs setup.   I'm happy as a pig in shit that I didn't have to modify anything.

Yup, once I saw them installed in your car, I was sold.  You almost done with that thing or what? I just need a nice paint job and I'm ready to go. I'll swing by one of these weekends and help you out.

I have the merge collector version (longer collector) installed on a Hinson LS2 subframe. No fitment issues with the steering shaft or subframe, but had to do quite a bit of work the the driver side floorboard, including LOTS of hammering, and fully cutting out the protrusion where the stock tranny mount bolts to. The Hinson tranny mount uses those same mounting points as the stock Mazda tranny, so I was forced to use the Samberg mount. I can't see anyone using his merge collector LT's with his mount.

I've heard of one guy who decided to attach V-band clamps to his collectors, and of course had much more trouble with fitment from the additional diameter.

I would to like to see some pics of the clearance from the bottom. Will the stainless longtube header clear a samberg mount kit with an LS1 using C5 aluminum stands. the issue I have with the JTRs is that I am using a Lingenfelter oil block and I will need to hammer down the #1 tube to clear it.

I can't help you with the picture, but we built our LT's to clear the LPE oil distribution block. We sell the block in oil cooler kits, and we didn't want to loose that option.

The FC should use our mid length 1.75" headers. The long tubes will not work. The FC's require a little lower firewall modification with the mid length design, but everyone seems to make them work.
