I believe this car is sold.  And there was more than 1 interested party.

Good for him.  If he got 70k that's great news, when Nick gets 90k for his, he can throw me a few dollars.

I saw this this car listed on eBay for 50K a week or 2 ago. I'm guessing it ended up selling it around that ball park.

I think 50k is pretty reasonable for it considering the level of execution.   It'd be a slam dunk in the low/mid 50 range with A/C and P/S.

The issue I run into is charging 70k for a car that a buyer then needs to spend another 3-5k to finish, when the average market for a similar (though without as many unicorn parts) car is 50% of that.   If I'm going to spend 2x the typical retail for a car, it should be complete.

$49.5k
The market has spoken. Probably a record for an LS swapped FD as far as I know. Far cry from $70k but still a respectable Sum.

This number seems reasonable, it is a nice piece.

@gnx7  Any comments to add to that Mark?  :halo:

Well done Eric!  Looks like you took the advice to heart AND still ended up with a tidy sum.

Nice job and hope the sale goes thru!

I sold a few customer cars with stroker motors in the low/mid $40's and mine for a bit more.  That is more in line with what the market will pay.

So did Fritz take your CW money and gobble this one up too? Seems like one he'd like to get his hands on considering the worth of its parts :P

Eric - A FD in the high 40s is legendary. Maybe even historical, swapped or not. I'm proud of ya.
I didn't feel the need to weigh in on this thread because by the time I caught up, I was late to the party and didn't feel like I had anything to add. That said, sticker rage on norotors is unparalleled. Any car here can be picked apart and labeled unfinished because of x, y, z and outrage sparked because it's $XXXXX.XX overpriced for an 'unfinished car' that can be built for $YYYYY.YY less.  .... And it happens here... all  the time...
I think every member and their grandmother has a feel for the market on norotors, so I've never understood the sentiment of the price hecklers / car value justice warriors. Personally, I know I don't need their protection from allegedly overpriced cars  :yay:

If you haven't abandoned norotors, I'd like to know what direction you're headed after you get over the hump of this sale

I think what people fail to realize is your options open up a lot in that 50-70k range. You can get some pretty awesome new cars and slightly used cars in that range. Even Supra prices face this problem.

That's is absolutely a fact Jon, but one that has no place in someones for sale ad. Saying you can buy X car or Y car for your asking price so you're insane for asking it isn't enlightening or productive; it's just trolling for an argument.

Just my 2cents

Edit: I am in no way saying that you're the guy that says that in people's ads. I'm just commenting on the fact that I have seen people use that argument in people's ads as an excuse to show their asses ;)

I didn't jump in hard until people starting acting like assholes and editing other people's posts.

That said, we'd call someone out for something stupid anywhere else on the forum, why exactly wouldn't that behavior be expected here?

I think what got me the most was that this is a straight up street car and the A/C button doesn't do anything.   And it's the highest price I've ever seen for a swap car.   If it was Brent's track car, or KingKyle's track car, yeah, no A/C is reasonable.   This is being claimed as the best swap ever put together from a price standpoint and it's straight up incomplete.   If I bought that car and can't work on them myself (why would I spend 2x typical retail if I could do the work myself?) then I now need to send it to a shop to do the A/C, which will probably cost me 2-3k more.    I'd consider P/S pretty reasonable from an expectation standpoint too, so add another 1500-2000 dollars to have a shop do that to.    Now you're at 74-75k.   What else is missing?    This is a binary operation, do all the buttons in your car work?  Nope?   Should they? Yes?  Okay, then your shit isn't done.

I don't expect people not to get called out for saying stupid things, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. The sort of viciousness I've seen in this thread and others to one of our own just disappoints me. You may say tit for tat, but really? I let people slide for saying stupid things and being assholes on here all the time. I get that norotors is a younger group... I just guess I expect more from the community.

Complete / Sorted / Best are all relative terms. I sold my car as a completely sorted street car, but I deleted cruise control among other things. If someone really wanted to be an asshole they could have said, your cruise control doesn't work therefore it's not complete, therefore it's not the best, therefore it's not worth your asking price. Bit of a stretch but you see what I'm saying? Just because someones definition of complete doesn't match yours doesn't mean it's time to break out the pitch forks.

Look, I'm not defending Eric's meltdown. He got angry and became an asshole. I just hated to see the guy get crucified and outed like this in a community he's been a part of for years. I liked the guy. He took pretty pictures and he did some things with his car I'd never seen before. He was also very cordial via PMs. Everyone has their breaking point, and I think we can all agree, having other people pick apart something you've worked hard on can really trigger a lot of people (myself included).

I agree that attacks aren't necessary and if Eric had stayed cool, it'd have stayed in For Sale and could have been cleaned up.  To be blunt when you start an ad with a tone of "if you think this is too expensive, you're stupid", well you get what you get.

I'm pretty set on my belief that if you want to charge a premium price for a build, it should have basic functionality present.   I'd consider the ability to turn in a parking lot and have a functional HVAC system to be pretty basic things.    Cruise control is, on these swaps, a pretty rare thing to have functional, but P/S has been as basic swap item for over a decade, and thanks to you (Lane) A/C is pretty well understood as well.   But to my point, if cars that have A/C, P/S and cruise were selling for 25-30k most of the time, and REALLY nice ones sold for 35-40k, and you asked 45k for one that didn't have it, yeah, I'd expect people to note that it is missing.

I guess I just don't feel like this is a "coin holder doesn't have a working internal light" kind of thing.  This is a "I can't easily defog my windows or turn around in a parking lot" issue.  If I spent 70k on a 911 Turbo, I'd damn well expect A/C and P/S to work, that's the difference in a premium priced car, and I guess that's my whole point.    This car was worth more in pieces than as a whole.

edit:  In fairness to my Porsche example, maybe this is like a Porsche where they charge you more to take things out.   I hadn't considered that business model.   Want no carpet?  That's 5k, no radio?  3k extra!   :yay:

edit 2:   Also, at 50k, it hit about the price that I think a lot of people expected, so calling out 70k as insane...  was... well, correct.   I might be an asshole, but I was a correct asshole.  Also his wheels were ugly.   :halo:
