FD IRS subframe into a mini truck
« on: March 17, 2017, 01:49:33 PM »
So I started to pull the truck apart, and the time to start making decisions is coming up. Cleared the old furniture out of the small garage and my lady is done with her pintrest pallet stuff.

I've been racking my head on this one, I had bought the stuff needed to rebuild the brakes for the truck. Damn near impossible to find stock stuff. Was no success. I've done as much searching as possible and have seen trucks with FD and RC IRS setups, but just not using the stock frame, and really it was so that they could slam their trucks.

I was just wondering if anybody here has seen an FD rear subframe in any mini truck? Rear track width for and FD is 57.5 and the REPU is at 56.

Looks like a pretty awesome project!

I cannot say I've seen a setup like that but with the right tools and some time I think it would be awesome. Three rotor N/A that thing too!

Honestly it shouldn't be that bad.   The upper strut mounts will be most of your issue.   From that perspective an 03-04 Cobra IRS rear subframe might be simpler.

Toyota guys use the FC IRS under hiluxs and tacomas, don't think I've seen an FD under anything.

I would think an FC rear subframe may be cheaper...but as blak said shock and spring mounts will be the hardest

My concern with the cobra irs is the track width.

I've been diggin as much as I can and as Underfire and Free said, FC would be the way to go.
I am not looking at even trying to slam this truck, not what i want. I'd prefer to keep the bed the way it is so that I could actually use it
I've seen quite a few FC irs setups. Looking over at Bscene has given the most info.

The thing i am curious now is how will changing the location of where the sprung mass is located affect the handling, if even much at all?

that second setup looks cool and looks like a bed could easily be mounted.  I would think that it would only improve things.  Obviously some tuning will be needed for the proper shocks and springs.
