Yep, I'm pretty sure we could afford a yoga room, a game room, and a den, a home theatre, lifts in the garage and a hot tub in my bathroom...

But at the end of the day, does any of that make you happy?  Was it Rockefeller who once answered the question "how much is enough?" with the response "just a little bit more?"

Sounds like a trap to me.

Yeah, it sounds like you should salt chef that resume around your area and see what you can come up with. With Ronin, Church (another family), the girls and school. and having to move are good reasons to stay. Keep the girls humble, they don't need the rich and famous lifestyle... lol

Move to Wisconsin and sell or install building products for me.
We actually have a lot of commercial installs that need engineering and design involved.  :poke:

Absolutely!  That's doubly true if they're located in SoCal...  Jordan Brenthal of Brenthal Racing is a former MillenWorks guy so he's one of the folks I'll be reaching out to.  I've love any names or contacts you'd be able to share.

If I bail on SoCal the options go really wide really quickly.  Thank you for the vote of confidence.

Bit of an update: Decided to do whatever we can to say in SoCal.  Part of my move to Orange County five years ago was a distinct attempt to put down more roots (and we have) so I don't want to take that lightly.  The biggest reason to move is the lust after more leg-room, in particular a proper shop...  Still, since I did so much of the work myself, it took me almost two years to set up the shop/garage space I have.  I don't want to do that over again. My kids are young and I want to finish my Land Cruiser and go have some crazy adventures with the family.  Staying local is also huge for continuing to grow Ronin and that's a big piece of what I really want to be doing.

So I'm searching local.  Job boards have turned up relatively slim pickings, but I have a few good leads based on networking that I'm working on.  I'm also happy to report the rolling resume is back in the wild.   :halo:

I'm finally taking my older daughter to 1st grade in the thing, and that's been a dream for a while.

I have an interview this afternoon with a company I think would be ideal.  They've warned me they're not sure they can afford me though.  Wish me luck both impressing and demonstrating the value I can bring!

Are you sure she's safe enough in that car? I don't see a Hans device.  :D

Good luck Joel. Make sure you go to the interview in the rolling resume so they see what you're worth.  8)

Good luck! Sell yourself well and don't buy into that "afford you" bs! They are just setting you up for a low-ball offer. Lol

Had to cut down the booster to make it land well, but the geometry of all the straps is solid so we're good.

Rolling resume is with me.  It makes an impression.  :halo:

I have a theory that in any given interview there's really only three questions being asked:

-Can this person do the job, do it well, and do it quickly?
-Is this someone I want to work with?
-Can this person bring more value than they cost?

If you can bring a lot of value, high cost shouldn't matter.  So that's what I get to prove.  :yay:  It also serves as explanation for why CEOs make so much damn money.

Largely I believe you are correct Joel. Generally there are simply ceilings on what a particular employer will pay you, for whatever reason. That is not to say you can'y stretch them to the top of their range by showing more value. I've seen more and more employers put more weight on a good culture fit as well.

I just went through a whole job search myself.. I ended up staying where I am at.

good luck!
but don't forget it's always a negotiation.
It's not just the candidate that is being shopped.
the job is also a commodity, so they have to sell you the job too.
so if you really like/want the job, they can offer you less and you'd still want it over a shitty job you'd hate, but they pay 7 figures.

I disagree. I would do a lot of shitty jobs for 7 figures.
