Anyone Looking for a Network Engineer?
« on: November 16, 2016, 01:47:21 PM »
Hey all,

So I figured I'd lean on the NoRotors network of people a bit and see if anyone knew of their company looking for a Network Engineer.    I've got about 8 years experience in network engineering (17 years in IT overall) and currently support a large national network of several thousand devices and over a thousand individual locations.   I function as Principal Engineer for my company (one of two) and oversee all aspects of our corporate network.  I also have a lot of experience in healthcare as well as Linux systems administration.

Just figured I'd throw something out and see if anyone knew of anything.  I have some concerns about direction at the company I work at right now and want to cover my bases.  ;)

Regards,

Blake

I'll keep my eye's open.

Would you re-locate if needed?

Also, check into school districts. They're always in need of knowledgeable network admins.

The hospital that I work for is looking for a Network Administrator as well as a Data Center Operations Manager. It would require relocating to Texas but I thought I would throw it out there in case.

I'm not against relocating for a good gig.   :)     Kinda sucks because I just built a house a year ago, but it is what it is, I can sell of my Mustang for relocation money if needed.

School districts, in my experience, don't pay very well, unfortunately.    I have an up to date resume, Dice profile and LinkedIn profile if you guys run into anyone looking.   I really am very good at this stuff.  ;)   CBS is hiring in New York City, but I don't think I could deal with NYC, haha.

My company is moving my department to Denver (Ill be posting about this shortly ha)

But, we are hiring Principal Engineers etc like crazy if we can get our hands on em. Need all the help we can get.

Relocation bumps etc for moving to Denver. Large Enterprise situation, I help managing roughly 700 devices and all customers off of them. No real customer service, more like diagnostic/troubleshooting of our own network.
If its something you want to think about, shoot me an email/PM whatever and Ill shoot ya over some info.

(as with most smaller companies, job titles are more like guidelines here anyways)

I shall take a look.  :)     I specialize in computer networking, so routers/switches/interconnect, etc.    That said, I have background in Linux systems administration, database, scripting, etc.   You kind of have to be a bit of a jack of all trades to do networking at a deep level as you spend 75% of your time troubleshooting other people's broken junk.  :D

We have a outside company run our IT/Networking, and they suck. Its a small network, the cost of living is high, snow is coming tomorrow, which means lots of salt on the roads, and clean roads won't happen until April or so. Wanna move to MN?!?!?!  :D

I wanted to update this.

First off, I want to thank everyone here who reached out to me and were helpful in giving me a good word or direction.    That means a lot and I really hope everyone here knows how much I appreciate this community and everyone in it.   You guys (and girls) are awesome!

Secondly, I accepted a new job (local, yay!) today as a Sr. Network Architect with a big local company.   It's a pretty different role than I've been in, but I'm excited to get started.   It should, in theory, have much less 60-80 hour weeks than I do now.   I work one day most weekends and 2-4 nights a week right now and to be blunt, I'm tired of it.  Hopefully this new position will, after I'm up to speed, be able to put more time into my car/car related projects.  :D

Again, a big thank you to everyone, I really appreciate it!

Oh, and if we're Facebook peeps, don't post anything about this.   My current company has not announced my departure.

Thanks guys.

It is actually VERY hard leaving where I'm at.   My boss is a fantastic guy and I work with some absolutely great people and the team I'm on is the most talented I've ever seen (and likely will ever see again).  It's hard to break up the band, so to say, but I think it's the best thing for me to do in the long run.    The company I work for now has watched their stock drop from 6+ dollars a share to <2 dollars in a year, and that's rough on morale and even rougher on budget.   It really takes a lot of the fun out of what I do, and it has made me worry far too much about what tomorrow has in store.

We shall see how it goes.  :)
