Bikedad's New Ride Now with Turbo
« on: November 14, 2016, 12:30:03 PM »
Most of you know I sold the RX7 a couple of months ago.
I really wanted a convertible and was vascillating between RX7, BMW, Classic car........Don't really know.

I was patient in my search and figured it would take me through this Winter to make a decision.

I was at a wedding recently discussing my dilemma with a good friend. He and his wife are pretty well off financially. He really likes exciting cars but hasn't a clue about working on them. He drives a Mercedes AMG C63. I told him I was leaning towards about a 2008 BMW Z4 that I saw in Florida. Low miles, well taken care of etc. It was a 3.0si with a six speed etc.
He said he looked at those and contemplated one as well. (M series of course  :D )

He said, "You know, I don't know if you would be interested but my wife is selling her 2008 BMW 335i. She really doesn't drive it much anymore since she got the Jeep Cherokee. (2016 SRT Limited Edition. Really nice)
It's a six speed. Has a turbo and sport suspension. 59K miles.  :secret:

Hmmm, never thought about those. Kind of sedan looking but hey, turbo? Six speed? (kind of rare) Sport suspension?
Probably out of my price range.

Went and looked at it. Took it for a ride and, well, "Stolzer Besitzer des Deutsch-Engineering" (goes with my heritage :D )
Got it for a couple thousand more than I sold the RX7 for.
Man it's fun to drive!! :drive:

I still plan on sticking around for the newbies with questions on the old school setups.

JB4 tune it. BAM. POWAH.

But seriously, the JB4 tune is kinda a big deal on those. My buddy has an 09 Coupe with the JB4 tune and an auto, it rips like crazy. Hasn't had any issues with it either.

Congrats man those are fun, always wanted one but I fit about as well as I did in my FD.

If something catastrophic happens to the motor and it's determined it needs to be replaced. I would consider it.  :D

It's kind of amazing though. The amount of power that 6 has really surprised me. 300HP with the sport suspension and it drives like it's on rails.
But, as like most of us you get acclimated pretty quickly to the power and you find yourself wanting more. (Same thing happened with the RX7  ;))
So, it looks like I'm getting the JB4 tune for it already. 100HP pluggin. I'll also be replacing the downtube.

The car is in storage now so I'll be doing some Winter work on it.  :)

I have a N54 car also.  putting down just under 500awhp.  basically every mod that can be done minus the e85 fuel pump setups and single turbo.  this car has a 5" collector going to a 4" mandrel bent exhaust with no mufflers.

get the jb4 and put in e30.  those downpipes wont hurt either

Nice! Working towards that goal. Except I'm keeping this car quiet. I'm starting to get old.  :D

Yeah Don. As much as I love an RX-7 it's just way more comfortable and refined driving a BMW. These cars are good out the gate but the inexpensive mods make big power. It's crazy that such a nice refined car can run 11's reliably for cheap. The buy in price and factory parts are more expensive than most cars but the pleasure driving one daily can't be overstated.
My BMW 435 M sport was my all time favorite car to date. Having recently driven an M2.... it's like the 435 on steroids. Sharper steeeing, best brakes I've felt in any car, exhaust note greatly improved from a 3.0L Turbo. So much fun to drive.
If I wasn't trying to build a shop I would be daily driving another BMW.

BMW got it right with the E90-E93 and the new M2.  I got to drive the M2 on a track and it was so much fun.

Great color combo!  It crazy how much the prices on the 335's are down to.  Such a great car for the money.

I got a ride in a buddies car with the JB4 tune and it was no slouch!

At what power level does the engine need to be rebuilt for more power?

I honestly don't know what power level it would need rebuilding. There are a few running around here at the 550 HP mark and they pretty much just did new plugs, walnut blasting (direct injection).
I would maybe change out the coils on mine because I'm at 60,000 miles.

It would really depend on how it's driven I think.
