Optimal position for T-56 Magnum shifter.
« on: September 11, 2016, 06:03:09 PM »
Hi all,

I've been sifting through droves of threads trying to find the optimal position for the shifter on a T-56 magnum. I've seen lots of people post lots of things, but never can tell where exactly the shifter pokes out of the hole once the car is back together. Please keep in mind my car has been apart so freaking long that looking at the shifter protruding from the square metal of the tunnel doesn't really tell me much without the trim around it. I have been planning to to buy the Sikky shifter, but now I see that they offer two options, a 4" and a 7" unit. For that kind of money, I want to order the right one, and my tranny is a while away from being in the car to measure myself. Your advice, knowledge, and commentary is much appreciated!

You need the 4" set-back.

Thank you. Does that allow it to sit perfectly centered in the stock location or is it still offset a bit?

Bump.... Sikky now offers a 5.5" setback. Any opinions if this would be more ideal?

I put this thing in my build, and the shifter came up dead center with a T56 magnum..  And it's like half the price of the Sikky one.

Are you sure you linked the right part?  The image they picture show show a shifter that goes straight up. There is no offset.

I sell the White Lightning shifter for proper setback.  That one pictured is the 4 bolt base plate style.  For the T56 Magnum you need the 6 bolt base plate.

One can also modify the stock shifter that comes with it which is written up on norotors.com

I cut the stock Magnum shifter and had a 3.5"-4" dog leg welded onto it.
It actually feels really nice with just a slightly noticeable vertical movement from the offset. It still feels very tight and not flimsy at all.

I will be doing this and from people that have had the expensive shifters this feels the best.
