Side load added in. 3Gs x 1.5.

Seems like it's been awhile! Looks great. I remember the thread on forum doing a similar design but it mounted below the rear bumper.

Looks great! Hope to see the car around at some local events. Been a few years since I've seen it anywhere.

Great engineering and workmanship, but yeah, very ricey.   :poke:

I am a fan of this functional rice, and may even be joining the big wing brigade one day too.

Looking forward to hearing about differences post wing, fantastic fab work as always. Is it a GT300 or GT500 from APR?

Very nice!  I need to do something similar.  My current setup is way too draggy.

Nice work. Now you should make a rear diffuser.

Always good to see a post from Kevin!

Any post on the front splitter build?

I have the same wing... and now our cars look nearly identical - mine being the neglected step child.  I may beg you for the CAD file because I DO NOT like the way the APR mounts fit on the hatch... also I want to go with a CF hatch and don't want to drill into it.

IIRC you run mostly autox, and I believe the rules for XP don't allow for any part of the wing to go beyond the rear of the car.

"In addition, no portion of the wing or its components may be more than 6” (15.24 cm) forward
of the rear axle, more than 0” (0.0 mm) beyond the rearmost portion of the bodywork"

Also looks like your splitter might be too wide also...

"No portion of the splitter may extend beyond the widest part of the front bumper as viewed from above."

Nice fab Kevin!

Questions:

-Any tips or trick on using a roundover bit in a wood router?  I'm going to try that.
-Can you open your hatch?  On an FC it's not even close, at least if you try to align to Autocross rules about zero overhang that is.
-Any reason you didn't go bigger with the lightening holes?  FEA looks like the only hot spots are hardware.  What did you decide on for your pass/fail criteria?

Regards,
Joel

PS what's the event?  Car's looking great.  Good luck to you!

The even was LS Fest this past weekend, in Bowling Green KY.  I was there, but unfortunately my tires never came in (ordered Jun 1st).  The BFG Rival S's are impossible to get last in the season, so I was just a spectator.

The wing mounting won't pass SCCA XP rules, it is about 1.5 or 2" past the rear of the bumper.  I don't really care to compete in SCCA competitively anymore, so I didn't pay too much attention to meeting those rules.  I'm planning on doing some more of the Pro Touring events like the Optima Events, and Midwest Muscle Car challenge, Northeast Muscle Car challenge, LS Fest, etc. I will be changing the car's setup to work with a 200 TW tire, so that will be fun.

Tips on the routing.  Use a lot of lube.  Cutting dry with a carbide bit left the surface marred looking.  I doused it in WD-40, and all was well cutting after that.  Also, i think the lowest setting on my router is 8k rpm, which seemed too high based on what I was calculating for surface speed, but it worked really well.

As far as lightening holes, the bending stiffness is what was really limiting.  I was trying to keep under 1/4" deflection laterally.  After having it on the car, and pushing around on the wing, it is VERY stiff.  I probably could have went more aggressive with the lightening, but it would only have saved a few ounces.

Splitter build.  I was really slacking on taking any pics.  I'll give a really quick run down.  I overkilled it, its too heavy, and stupid stiff.  I'll be making another, probably this winter.  I did 7 plys, core, 7 plys.  I could stand on it before I installed the front struts.  I'll probably go 4 core 4.  I would probably get away with 2 core 2 for stiffness, but for impact (cones), I'm thinking I'd like the leading edge to be close to 0.1" thick or so of solid composite.

And anyone that wants the CAD files for the uprights just let me know where to email them to.  I can send as a .prt for NX, or export in any format you want.  I have .dxf formats already done for water jetting too.
