The even was LS Fest this past weekend, in Bowling Green KY. I was there, but unfortunately my tires never came in (ordered Jun 1st). The BFG Rival S's are impossible to get last in the season, so I was just a spectator.
The wing mounting won't pass SCCA XP rules, it is about 1.5 or 2" past the rear of the bumper. I don't really care to compete in SCCA competitively anymore, so I didn't pay too much attention to meeting those rules. I'm planning on doing some more of the Pro Touring events like the Optima Events, and Midwest Muscle Car challenge, Northeast Muscle Car challenge, LS Fest, etc. I will be changing the car's setup to work with a 200 TW tire, so that will be fun.
Tips on the routing. Use a lot of lube. Cutting dry with a carbide bit left the surface marred looking. I doused it in WD-40, and all was well cutting after that. Also, i think the lowest setting on my router is 8k rpm, which seemed too high based on what I was calculating for surface speed, but it worked really well.
As far as lightening holes, the bending stiffness is what was really limiting. I was trying to keep under 1/4" deflection laterally. After having it on the car, and pushing around on the wing, it is VERY stiff. I probably could have went more aggressive with the lightening, but it would only have saved a few ounces.
Splitter build. I was really slacking on taking any pics. I'll give a really quick run down. I overkilled it, its too heavy, and stupid stiff. I'll be making another, probably this winter. I did 7 plys, core, 7 plys. I could stand on it before I installed the front struts. I'll probably go 4 core 4. I would probably get away with 2 core 2 for stiffness, but for impact (cones), I'm thinking I'd like the leading edge to be close to 0.1" thick or so of solid composite.
