Author Topic: The Muskrats V8 FB: Rising up from the swamps of degradation.  (Read 2806 times)

For the past decade I have built rotary powered RX7s. No need to justify why I went with a v8 here. It's been covered many times before. I found this car on ebay originally, then found the craigslist ad in Des Moines. I live 13 hours away. After some consulting with my might as well be brother XLR8 on here we decided to pull the trigger. Another friend and I pulled an empty uhaul dolly out behind an 01 Mercedes ML320. We had zero issues on the way out. The car was quite a bit rougher in person. But, I got it for 1700. On the way back not only did I make the detrimental mistake of eating at truck stop restaurant, but we also got a clogged cat at the Iowa - Illinois line. Anything over 4000 rpm and the car would start missing horribly and we would have to stop and pull the negative terminal to reset the ecu.

We finally made it home the next day looking like roadkill. The engine and trans run and operate smooth. The shifter could be done better but that is minor. Everything else however is very rough and I have my hands full.

At the moment we have:

- Early fox body 302 i think with mechanical fuel pump on the side and Hederman shorties.

- C4 transmission with a B&M ratchet shifter

- edelbrock high rise with 650 cfm edelbrock carb

- Radiator from a 91 explorer

- Stock weak 4.10 one wheel peel rearend with drums

My future plans are:

- T5 trans with lightweight flywheel

- 8.8 rear

- Holley Sniper efi on a low pro 4150 flange intake manifold

- Mild cam

- GT40 heads or possibly something else

- AC and PS install

- Z flares

Glad you got it back in one piece buddy.  It's going to be an awesome ride when done!

damn that thing is rough!  Should be a fun project though, FBs are pretty simple.  Looking forward to seeing how this turns out
