PEZ Harness: Problems Mounting ECU.
« on: April 09, 2016, 02:18:31 PM »
I am considering buying an FD with a PEZ wiring Harness. From what I can tell, the wiring is too short to mount the ECU in the normal place. Do they make an extension? If not, how difficult would it be to extend the wiring by hand?

New info: The harness seems too long to mount in the kick panel, but too short to fit under the seat.

Huh?  That pcm looks to already be extended so you may even be able to put it under the seat.  Looks like there is plenty of room to put it behind the kick panel.

All I know is that the seller says it doesn't fit very well. I haven't seen the car in person yet.

If I put it behind the kick panel, would it be visible? Would it take up room in the footwell? All the pictures I see on google have a big aluminum plate covering it, and taking up leg room.

It wont fit behind the kick panel, not without cutting sheetmetal. The most common place is in the foot well. It wont take up much space.

a 411 PCM will 100% fit behind the kick panel without cutting any of the car. That is where mine was before I went Holley.... you have to trim the cooling fins off of the chevy PCM. It does not effect the PCM at all because GM designed it to be in the engine compartment.

Ok, new information.

The problem seems to be that the harness is too LONG, to fit in the kick panel, yet too short to fit under the seat.

The car is five hours away, so I haven't actually seen it yet.

That makes no sense.   Just loop the harness up behind the HVAC.   I have an FD in my garage with a long harness and ECU in the kick panel.

That's kind of what I thought, but not having seen the car, it's tough to gauge the problem from one picture.
