Top Fuel Bike Explosion
« on: September 14, 2015, 09:26:39 AM »
So I've posted some stuff about my family's T/F bike before.  Well he had a catastrophic failure on the bike yesterday morning.  I'm not sure if it hydrolocked, but that's my guess by the carnage.  He was smoking the tire and blipping the throttle/brake to try and get traction and it quite literally blew the engine apart.   Took the cylinder case off of the crank case and blew the cylinder head clean off the bike.

He has some 2nd degree burns and the bike has pretty massive damage, it was on fire for several minutes and cooked most of the body/electronics and the engine explosion blew the backbone off the motorcycle.

Here's a video of the explosion, you see it at the end as he goes through the lights, bike is in the right lane:

Glad he's okay. (saw the post explosion interview)
Does this mean he's done for the season or will they get it back together quickly?

Wow. That is pretty damn scary. Glad he is okay. Do they where fire suits under their leathers?

Pretty amazing he stayed on it and kept it upright after the explosion. And had enough sense to pull chute while he was on fire.

Next time you talk to Jimmy, you tell him that Blake "Austin Coil" McBride says hey.   I worked on his drag bike team in 2006.   Super cool guy, for a short little crazy bastard.

They have nomex in the leathers I believe.   The leathers were melted to his legs from the fire.   He's a hell of a rider, most guys would have bailed, he rode the bike all the way to the ambulance, haha.
