They will both handle terribly and wind up in a ditch somewhere because they no longer have the perfect balance of a rotary and there is too much torque for the chassis.
But with the RX 8 can't you move the LS engine back like 2 feet or put a rotary in the driver footwell and another in the passenger footwell and with either of these setups, the driver can sit in the back seat, wouldn't that work and with the second option satisfy the purists, it's like the car would have twin souls.

I think a V8 FD and V8 Rx8 will be similar in handling. They both have very good chassis, but each will do better at different types of tracks.

I toyed with the idea of buying one and tackling the CANbus stuff for a daily (it's got a backseat and a 3rd door, remember), but I just can't get over how they look... the FD was timeless, and I feel like the RX8 is exactly the opposite - didn't look good when it came out, looks even worse 10yrs later.

What is the opposite of timeless? Timeful?

Dated
While I'm not sure the rx8 is dated, it is weird.  Ronin picked one up a while back, we may look into making parts for swapping them.

With equal powerplants I imagine layup Tom's would be similar fd to rx8.  The rx8 is more stiff, the fd is lighter.

FD with welded in roll bar and a strut tower bar is going to have more torsional rigidity than the RX8 - problem solved lol

Unfortunately this....

IMO the front looks good but it just seems to get worse or plain the farther back you go.  The 3/4 rear view is horrendous.  For me it will never garner the passion as the FD did.

They are a capable chassis tho....

I will say not a lot of the handling is spoiled to the V8. While yes the rotary will go into the corner slightly faster than the swapped car. The V8 will have no issues reeling it in. I haven't had any car run away from me yet in the hill country roads. I even bought a stock RX8 to see what all the hype was on RX8Club. What an anemic, limp wristed car. It was a lot of fun in the corners and was very forgiving but who cares when you can get rolled by a civic. Anyway, I know the RX8s will never have the rep the FDs do but you don't have to pay the huge dummy tax attached to every FD I've seen in any shape/condition. I've put many thousands of miles on mine and I look forward to driving it everyday. Most fun I've ever had in a car. Plus it's a bit of a sleeper because everyone loves to pick on the wimpy RX8.  to the op, that is a HORRIBLE deal for a salvage title auto car. Get a manual car for the better brakes and not having to change the console, wiring, gauges, etc.

That's good to know, I wouldn't have imagined that they downgraded the brakes on the automatic.

I'm no RX8 expert. You would need to go to douche filled RX8Club for their awe inspiring intelligence. But yeah the manual gets the better brakes and suspension. Plus why would you want to deal with converting it over to auto pedals, console, wiring, gauges, etc?

Had to bring this thread back, local seller has a white '07 manual car complete except motor for $1900, only downside is salvage title, but I think the later model cars had improvements.

Moreso improvements to the motor and trans. That's a real good price for a later series 1. Salvage title is a deal breaker for me though.

Don't know why but I find this very funny. Just fell out of my chair laughing  :yay:
