You've been looking at FDs too long.  :)

I'm strongly considering an LS swapped RX8 as my next track car when the swaps get sorted out a little better in them.

'04, automatic, rebuilt title, blown motor, $2100 obo, it looks complete in the pictures. the guy says he's a rotary mechanic, if he kept the motor you could probably get the whole car for like $1,400, that's pretty cheap.

Even without the salvage titles I have seen some that are laughably cheap.

there is a local one clean title 04 automatic 190 k miles low compression in motor doesn't run weather damage on body so they say, $1,500. I'd post a link but I'm doing this on my phone if anyone is interested its on Raleigh Craigslist. if your remote and really interested I could check it out for you but would probably want a little something for my time.

dang, since I first read this thread now I kind of look for them. the latest find is a clean looking running manual 04 silver with leather interior listed for 3250, slightly negotiable.yeah compared to FD's they appear to go pretty cheap. maybe this should be in a new thread but when I think of swapped FD's versus swapped RX8's, it seems like a moderate amount of performance capability is given up with those back seats which require the massive door opening that isn't exactly contributing to chassis rigidity. its sorta like the Honda Element with the central opening doors, they had to add a lot of structural reinforcement which made it several hundred pounds heavier than it could have been with normal doors to meet side impact standards.

The rx8 chassis is approx twice the stiffness of an FD iirc.  The RX8 is definitely uglier, heavier, and less aerodynamic.

A sawzall can fix the heavier part. Your other points don't matter for my purposes :)

They are cheap because they are fugly in comparison to an fd (even an fc) and everyone knows it.

You guys are a riot. so assuming the same power level, and for the sake of conversation no chassis mods, or basically equivalent levels of chassis mods, which is going to get around the track faster, an FD LS or an rx8 LS?I guess you can specify whether it's a short technical track or some kind of wider open track.

They will both handle terribly and wind up in a ditch somewhere because they no longer have the perfect balance of a rotary and there is too much torque for the chassis.
