Leather Door Skins on Ebay, has anyone tried these?
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:07:52 AM »
Has anyone tried out these leather door skins that are on Ebay?  They get glued over the existing door card and might be a solution to freshen up old door panels.  Please reply if you have any experience with this product out of the UK.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RED-STITCH-2X-DOOR-CARDS-LEATHER-SKIN-COVERS-FITS-MAZDA-RX7-FD3S-1992-2002-/351109885242?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ARX+7&hash=item51bfc7ad3a

Not at all.  I would like to get some feedback (both positive and negative) from someone who has experience with this product.  I am a first time poster who has a FD with banged up door panels... I thought I was making a reasonable request for info.

They actually have some interesting stuff for sale (dash cover and knee pad covers). I wonder how the quality and fit is compared to redline goods?

Then I apologise. Just thought it was a strange first post.

Having looked through the products they appear reasonably priced, but the fit is looking a bit baggy for my tastes. WOuld be nice to see some more pics though.

Last I heard about a friend trying these out on his FD he had some issues with the thickness of the leather around the bottom of the door making it rub on the sill (sp?) like the guard that everyone replaces with CF RX-7 ones. Due to them rubbing it started to tear at the leather, and was quickly getting worn and pulling the 'leather' from the rest of the panel due to the catching/friction caused by closing the door.
Maybe they've changed and gotten better! Because this was like 3 years ago, but from the same seller I believe, because they look identical.

Everyone I've heard of that has tried wrapping FD doors has had problems with rubbing. It's definitely a 2 stage problem and I don't think anyone had solved both stages  :banghead:

I don't see why you couldn't shave down the bottom just a little before wrapping.  I wonder if Carbon door sills help.

I bought these leather door panel covers in December with good intentions.  I test fit one and all was well.  7 months later when I finally got around to mounting them, I found that they shipped me two left side panels.  The UK vendor Topgaiters refuses to do anything for me since it's been over 60 days.  It was partially my mistake by not checking both panels more carefully.  I am surprised that they will not correct their error and replace the one panel.  Lesson learned, check in your products thoroughly and avoid vendors who do not correct their own mistakes.

I love the idea of this ... concerned about sagging and wear.  Good prep and attention to detail will make the difference in application.  Any updates?

Anyone have pics of them on?

Matt, your application of reason and sound logic to fix issues is great, but I would like to see a little more irrational and emotional turmoil mixed in so I can feel better about myself.
