Yeah the wheels  fit pretty well. Did you have to put spacers behind them?

No spacers out back at all.  They are TIGHT but fit.   Front needs spacers which I ordered today.

First on the agenda is fixing a few patches I found in the body behind the fender, getting the panels aligned and shaving the drip rail.   Then subframe connectors and front suspension and brakes.

Here's a shot of the area behind the half-ass patch on the cowl side panel.  I cut out the weak metal and made this patch in a few layers to mimic the stock flanges so that it looks correct.   You can't see this area with the fender on, but I would know if it was half-ass...  ;)

Before:

After:

I also seam welded the toe panel (floor pan to firewall piece) since I didn't think it was installed with as many tacks as I wanted and it's somewhat structural in the unibody.    Much more rigid.   I also found that the forward area of the cowl panel was attached poorly so I cut it back, cleaned everything and folded it over to make a smooth transition.  Looks stock and is much stronger than the original design.   Again, you can't see these areas, but those details are what makes a good build.

I did decide that the cowl panel itself needs replaced.   This is a common issue on early Mustangs.   It's only a couple hundred dollars but is a fair amount of work.   I will order it as well as torque boxes (reinforcements between the frame and rockers/floorboards) for installation soon.   The 65-66 cars didn't have torque boxes, which hurt rigidity, but they can be added.    After that I should have a good body all around and then get started on some reinforcements and modifications.  :)

And the front driver's side of the car cleaned, etch primed, sealer primed and coated in bed liner.   I did not bother with the shock tower since it will be going away anyway when I update the front suspension.

And a shot showing the inside of the cowl.  It's probably repairable, but if I'm going to rip it open, I would rather just replace it all.

Thanks!

The car had an old Grant steering wheel in it with a wooden rim.   I'm pretty sure it's rather "vintage" as the car was last plated in 1977.  It was pretty rough with the varnish peeling off.    I sanded the old varnish off and am redoing it in a dark mahogany finish with a satin varnish.    Should come out pretty well and I think it suits the car well.   I'll get some pictures when it's done.

Good call on the wheel.  On our Firebird (79 model year), we found a vintage Momo wood grip wheel that was a dead nuts match for the wood grain on the dash.  Looked a thousand times better than the cheapie aftermarket wheel that was on it.
