Oilless is awesome!  Grease works well and I love the simplicity of the system.

Put the turbos in yesterday.   Drama free so far.   We shall see how it goes from here.

Went out today determine to sort out the CANbus issue as that should be the last thing stopping me from driving this (I kinda need headlights and turn signals).

6 HOURS LATER, I think it's fixed.

What was going on?

Well, when I redid the harness for the Nexus R5, I rolled all the CANbus(es) into one, and designed/built a little "brick" hub to connect them all together.  Looks great...  but, my real keypad was resetting randomly, which then also shuts off my power steering, which is problematic.  It resetting at all isn't good, but this was worse.

When I had the CAN networks setup before, the "in" from the wireless keypad that I use for turn signals/headlights/horn was separated from the Haltech network, so it fed my Arduino (which isn't really an Arduino) on one side, along with the output for the CAN dual h-bridge that runs the parking brakes.   The other side of the Arduino (CAN 2) was the connection to the Haltech network.   When I redid the car, I moved the h-bridge to run off the trunk PDM's CAN network, so I didn't have to run it all the way up front.   This meant I only had 2 devices on "network 2" so I just collapsed them into 1 network.

Big mistake.

So today I started working on breaking the networks back apart.   The Arduino side seemed easy as I just needed to turn channel 2 back on as an input and connect the wireless keypad to that.   But when I connected them, I didn't get any data.  Weird.  So I went down a rabbit hole that led to me re-timing the virtual keypad that I built in the Arduino thinking that side was the "real" issue not the wireless keypad.   That took about 4 hours of messing around before I realized that wasn't the real issue.   Good news is I did fix some bad timings/code issues in the process at least.   Oh well.

Back to the wireless keypad to Arduino not working.   I couldn't sort why it had data when I connected it to my Kvaser Leaf (CAN sniffer) and the input on the Arduino worked when I connected the main bus to it.  WTF.

Then it hit me.  The old H-bridge had termination set.  I was running an unterminated CAN network.   Stupid, stupid, stupid.   Built some termination resistors into the jumper cable and...  data!   Made some slight tweaks, tested it all and hey, whaddya know, everything works.

I was seeing keypad resets every 5-60 seconds (varying randomly) before.  I ran it for ~10 minutes with no resets this time, so if nothing else it's much happier.   Time will tell if it's 100% sorted.

While I was in there, I tweaked the base fuel table to lean it out which seems to be what it wants.   I need to top off the oil and I can start driving it.  I did break a clip I made for my HVAC controls so I need to glue that back together, and fix my power window control modules that had a double-sticky-tape failure and remount them to my glovebox power backing plate.   I also cleaned up the rest of the oil under/around the car.  When the lift is open from the Aston I'll pull the alternator off and touch up a couple things and charge the A/C up, ASSuming everything else is happy.

Baby steps...

3M dual lock received and installed.   No more dangling power window control boxes.   Hopefully it stays in place.

I also topped off the oil.  Always forget this GT500 setup uses like 9 quarts.   Ran it up to temp again to check for leaks, all good in the hood.    Cleaned up a few things under the hood as well from oil residue.   Next up I do need to build a new strut tower brace setup since mine hits the relocated engine.   Partly because it looks cool and partly because I need it to properly mount my EGT box and stop it flapping about under the hood.  :D

In the short term I'll probably just zip tie that box to something or make a simple bracket to bolt it to the intake or something and worry about the strut brace once the Aston is sorted.   I'd rather just start driving this damn thing.

My 3M Dual Lock didn't stay stuck to my panel either.  Not sure why.  Going to re-sand that mounting surface and glue it back on maybe.

Drove the car to cars and coffee this morning and it behaved pretty well.  The tune is getting tighter in the low load cruising areas.   I was able to lean into it a tiny bit and touch the edge of boost before it started spitting/breaking up a little.  I logged it all and will start sorting that out next, but it's getting better, slowly.

No oil leaks/issues/etc. on the drive and the new suspension feels pretty good so far.   I need to corner weight the car and run though the suspension settings a bit, but nothing too exciting yet.

Did you hit it with grease and wax remover that auto body painters use first?

I hit the plate with acetone.  It's just painted aluminum under the dash, I have no idea why it's apparently become teflon.   There's no oil/etc. anywhere near it.

Since I replaced the turbos, I've had a little bit of oil here and there in the engine bay still, which I isolated to the BOV and a joint in the charge pipes (on opposite sides of the bay).   Weird, I thought, since there's no oil in the turbos.

So yesterday I tore the entire charge system off the car and found that the intercooler had some oil in the bottom of it from the old setup, which was getting stirred up occasionally and aersolized out of the BOV.    I soaked all the charge pipes in my vat of Simple Green (everyone has a vat of that in their shop, right? haha), then hand washed/dried them.   The intercooler got a 3 step process with a gasoline flush, then a simple green flush, then a water flush.   Everything is squeaky clean and no more oil in the bay after a few drives.   Hopefully that's the last of the "oil in random places" game.

I need to get back under the car soon with some degreaser and clean up where oil coated some things and messed up the suspension paint in a few areas, though at least the current light film of oil will prevent any rust, hah.

I've also been working on the tune on the car.   I found that my cam control profiles are messed up because my oil pressure is super high with the GT500 pump/billet gear upgrade.  That means my PWM duty cycle on the cam solenoids is too high, so I'm slowly dialing that in.   I'm also working on the fueling which in inexplicably different with the Nexus R5 vs. the old Elite 2500.   Still don't know why, but I'm chasing it down slowly by working through steady state areas bit by bit.   The R5 also uses a MAP Prediction/Fuel Pooling transient fuel strategy which is a self-learning function that takes a little time to learn, but it seems to drive very nice.    The car is finally dialed enough that sub 4000 RPM runs VERY smooth and I'm within a half point or so of target AFR before trims.

I was excited to take the car to class last night, but noticed it was going dead lean when I stabbed the throttle, which was weird because I'd just added fuel in that area and it should have been only a tiny bit lean at most.

"Weird" I said to myself, like an idiot.  Saved the data log and figured I'd look at it later.   Then about 2 miles later it went lean at low throttle.  Then at cruise.  Then it died.   Then I noticed I had no fuel pressure.

Gas.  You have to put gas in these cars.  LOL.  At least I know why it went lean when I hit the throttle.

While I was on the side of the road waiting for a buddy to bring me a gas can, a nice cop stopped to see if I was alright.   He also has a Mustang (2015) and his plates are almost the same as mine "COYOT3" on his vs. "COYOTT" on mine.   I ended up showing him around the car for 10 minutes, haha.    Once I put fuel in the car it worked much better.  Weird.  :D

In fairness, I thought I had filled it up when I put it into storage, and I definitely haven't burned 20 gallons of gas.   Apparently I didn't.  Now I know.  Haha
