Driveline suggestions for an XR4TI rally style build.
« on: August 31, 2014, 08:58:19 AM »
I was given a Merkur shell and after building my Comanche I want to build something I can take down fire roads and class six stuff. I plan on caging the shell while retaining the use of the rear seats. I want to be able to hit some decent sized jumps and still have some streetability. I was thinking an atlas 3.5L with a turbo would make some group B appropriate noises without the AWD hassle.

Sounds like a pretty neat idea.

Blake, I uploaded a photo of the shell but I can't copy the code on my phone, tried mobile and full site viewing options. Is there a trick?

I have a buddy who had a few of those old XR4Ti's. Very European style look and made some nice open diff single wheel burnouts lol

Not sure I follow.   What isn't working?

Why not just put a 2.3 turbo back in it? Plenty of upgrades available.

I had a XR4Ti for a few years.  I always thought it's 2.3 turbo would be great in a Ranger pickup.  It's a heavy car, with at lot of gimmick junk that can be stripped out.

Oh it wouldn't copy the code when I selected it, it would just paste "HTML code" and no actual code.

I like the size and I think it looks pretty good from the front.  Nice headlights, haha.

It's not easy to find one, and then I have the cable clutch, T5, and old fuel management to deal with.

I was pretty surprised that it's curb weight was higher than my swapped FC.

Yes that is a MKIII bumper that someone put on it.
