Looking to test drive a V8 swapped RX-7 in Oregon
« on: August 18, 2014, 12:34:19 PM »
Honestly, I would be surprised if anybody is willing to let a perfect stranger do a ride-along, or better yet a test drive(with you sitting shotgun of course), but that is exactly what I am looking for...

I live in Eugene, OR, and would be willing to travel as far as as Portland for the insane privilege to get behind the wheel of a ~250-350 WHP FC or FD.

Given the inconvenience to you -  I'm willing to buy you lunch, put $20 in your tank, and talk cars until I'm blue in the face.
I'm new to RX-7s, but am a moderately experienced mechanic with a 5 year history with Mazda. I simply loathe the idea of putting 5 figures into a car without first making sure that I will enjoy it...

If you are interested in my offer, feel free to PM me or reply here. I am licensed, insured, and a very cautious driver(A single ticket or accident would cost me my job, so there is zero room in my life for careless behavior).

I am looking forward to becoming a bigger part of this community; Thanks for reading!

Nice looking MX-3 in your signature... I have owned two of them myself.  If I were closer I'd give you a ride, but I'm like 6 hours or so north.  There are a few people in OR with swapped cars, the best of which is 93silverbullet who is in Eugene as well.  Though now I'm starting to wonder if he sold it or not... can't quite remember

funny, the first time I ever sat in the driver seat of an FD was when I showed up to buy mine.(thanks James)  I sat in it and at first had a rush of claustrophobia just because it was so tight.  I got to drive his V8 FC and knew that is what I wanted.  I had ridden in a 500 suposedly hp rotary and wasn't so impressed but I have always loved the body style.

Good luck with your decision.

If you were closer to me I'd swap you my rx7 so I could take an mx3 for a drive and relive the good ol days. Just find an rx7 you can go for a ride in and sit in the drivers seat to make sure you fit. It doesn't even need to be swapped. If that's all good then buy one and swap it and don't look back. My LS swapped car absolutely scares the shit out of me sometime with how much haul ass its got. The rotary bummed me out.

First time I ever sat in an rx7 was the day mine was unloaded from a train after a 2700km ride. After smacking my head getting in and also having the claustrophobic feeling I thought I made a big mistake haha.

Haha, you guys are too kind! I appreciate the warm welcome!

That silver FD was a piece of art... I actually eyeballed that car when it was up for sale; I've lurked for a while now to be honest.

The MX-3s are a huge passion of mine, and for the longest time now I have considered a RWD conversion on my '92... In the end, I decided that I am happy with the car as it is, and that's the type of project that I would prefer to dedicate 2 solid years to perfect.

I would be more than happy to give somebody a spin in one of the MX-3s; My '92 is about as monstrous as an all motor KL powered car can be(minus ITBs), so it might still put a smile on your face. :)

I'll fit just fine in the FC; I've sat in one at the junkyard(sadly, my only experience thus far), and I am only 5'10 so fitment is a go!
The interior of the car that I got to sit in was mostly gutted by scavengers, so I didn't get a really good feel when it comes to the driving experience. If it even halfway resembles the MX-3, with RWD characteristics in place, then I will have finally found my true home so to speak!

Lets see some pics of your mx-3's. Rx-7's are old news around here :P.

Just buy one you won't regret it. Everything that the mx-3 doesn't have in the performance department you'll get in the rx-7. The rx-7 dash is superior to the mx-3 layout in my opinion. If you're planning on swapping this is a no brainer :D.

Rx7's can be adjusted to fit most drivers.  The FC driver's seat is adjustable with the addition of homemade backets since it is relatively flat. I'm 5'9 and I made brackets to raise the seat to just where my helmet would clear the roof.  I like a good view of the road.

If you like the looks of a RX7, a swapped 7 is in your future.  You will not be disappointed with the transformation.
You can make a barn door fly with enough horsepower.

Retirement at last.  Wife's not happy, I bought a '66 Rustang instead of paying off my F150.
