What is the purpose of the case spreader?

Spreads the case so you can get the carrier shims in without messing up the housing.

What do you think if these mesh patterns.




Im thinking i may need to reduce the pinon shim.

Two questions (answered my own questions).

What is "the desired carrier shim preload"? - 0.006 each side. This the amount taken out at the beginning of the process.

How did you know the Pinion shim is the correct thickness?  - use a tool or look at the gear pattern.
