Just because I am curious, how long did it take to physically print the rollbar hanger?

55 minutes.  There are a lot of things that affect the build time: number of outside layers (shells), inner density, max travel speeds, slicing tool efficiency, layer thickness, etc.  The list is endless.  I have it running slow right now because it produces a cleaner print.  The MAF plug takes about 30 minutes.

You know, I always rolled my eyes at 3D printing stuff until now...

Pretty awesome stuff. I have never seen a printed item in person. Is this stuff even strong? I don't see how it can be but I know absolutely nothing about it. I imagine this is layers of an epoxy of some sort or what is it?

The material is plastic that gets melted together at 200-230C and you can control things like the number of outside layers and internal shape/density to set the strength.  It probably helps to understand basic mechanical engineering when designing stuff so it doesn't break.   I'm not a ME so I just guess.  It's surprisingly strong.  The PLA material doesn't flex much so it tends to be more brittle than ABS.  Layering the plastic in the printer probably isn't as strong as molding it directly into the final shape, though.

On my list of things to try is a fire extinguisher mount and a handle for the passenger to hold onto in the track car.

VERY KICK ASS!

Koenisiigggiigigigigigggggg or however the fuck you spell there name, claim to make a few parts for the cars on the 3d printers.  Parts of the turbo come to mind, like the turbine housings...IIRC

They print the exhaust tip out of titanium and I believe it is the turbine blades for the turbo on the one:one.

I installed a gauge in my car the other day and thought a gauge pod would print well.  Printed a real simple shell to see what it would look like.  Need to spend more time on the design to include a mount and make it look nicer.

Orion - would you be willing to share an IGES/STP/"other universal cad format" file of that MAF plug? I was thinking about fabricating a plug but this looks like a much cleaner option that I could have my buddy with a printer crank out for me.

I attached a zip file with the openscad file, which you can render and save in a few different formats with (free) openscad, and the stl file.

^^^ Awesome!

I've got an LS3 intake so I'm going to have him print up a plug to glue in the silencer tube too. I'll post that file here once I finalize the dimensions.

Very cool! What is the heat rating on the 3 types of material? I was looking on youtube and they are printing up working Assault rifle receivers with these printers. As well as functional single shot hand guns.

Pretty cool stuff.  Didn't realize they were down around 2k now.  FWIW your helmet hanger would be stronger if you added fillets to the sharp corners where the hook transitioned to the body.  That said, it certainly portrays the potential.

The melting points of the ABS and PLA I bought are around 400F.  I'm sure it starts breaking down before that.

I will add fillets to the hangar.  Thanks.
