WTB LS FD RX7 UNDER 12K
« on: April 07, 2014, 06:14:27 PM »
First off I know i'm not gonna find the best FD rx-7 with a ls swap in it in the greatest condition for under 12k but i am willing to do some work to it once i get it. But 12k is max i have to spend right now and i've seen a few under that for sale. So if you have anything please let me know. Message me on here or email me at zachrosaaen@gmail.com

I've seen the $12k LS1 FDs. They're usually in the shop, and they usually leave with a $12k bill once we pull the whole car apart, fix everything that was butchered, and put it back together. If by 'willing to do some work' means pulling every single swap component, as well as 1/3 of the stock parts out of the car, reverse engineering everything that the PO did, removing a grapefruit size ball of electrical tape, then putting it all back together again while wishing you just built one right the first time, or spent $20+k for a good one, the whole time.

Ya i understand man but i've seen a few decent ones for around that price. I know the 20k plus are ALOT nicer but i just dont have the kind of money. I wouldnt mind putting 5-10k into a car over a year or two its just gonna be hard to come up with all that money right now or even with in a few months

buy a nice FC and forget about it.  IF 12k is all you have then you wont have the money to fix the FD

You can buy a nice sorted FC for $10k, wheels, clean interior, fresh paint, and usually AC and PS.  Personally, I like FCs better for drivers. More interior room, a usable hatch, more room in the engine bay... Now, we just need Vin Diesel to drive one in the next F&F movie to hyperinflate their values!

I'm not a huge fan of the fc's. For the price i'd rather find a datsun to my liking and i have been looking for one of those as well but seems nobody is wanting to sell those when i actually have some money to spend

You might be lucky to find one for 10k with all mounting hardware without a engine or trans. That's about it.

Pretty much.  We're not trying to be down on ya, but that's just not enough budget.  If you get one and you're tapped, what happens then?  You have the mother of all paperweights?

If your dreams are significantly outside of your means, it's far better to make plans on how you get there than it is to try to force the issue immediately.  Hang out, keep saving hard, read lots of threads and be ready to jump when a high value offer shows up (no necessarily just the cheapest).  A bitching car on an emergency sale at 22k  is likely going to be a better value than a basic basket case at 12.

Yeah i understand guys what you're saying. Better off saving up a little more than buy something that's in a lot better shape. Like buying a 10k car with maybe 10-15k invested or buying a 15-20k car with 30k + invested be better for long run

This could not be a truer statement. And hopefully you only paid $12k for it in the first place.

Truer words were never spoken... Go on the club and price out FD interior prices to start with. 20K should be minimum for a "nice" FD. If you buy one for 10K you will likely spend the other 10K fixing broken or missing pieces, poorly engineered items, worn out and tired bushings, etc plus its a PITA. I used to own a Porsche and the well known mantra in the P-car community is: "There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche" and I think the same goes for an FD. Having owned both, I agree with the FC being a more friendly driver car. Its roomier, less expensive and more storage.
