T6 large frame turbo in a FC?
« on: February 10, 2014, 09:26:23 AM »
I just got a very good deal on an awesome turbo but it's kinda big...
I was wondering if anyone is running a T6 in their FC and where did you put it?

Here's a pic of my little GTX4708R:

1989 Mazda RX7 Turbo II, 357ci LT1, AI TFS CNC heads, Garrett GTX4708R, Ford 8.8" SAS, TH400. (Current project)
1995 Chevy Caprice, Twin turbo 357ci LT1, 9.96 @ 141.2 mph (sold)

Do you have pictures you can share of where you mounted your turbo?

Put it where it fits.  Its really not that big of a footprint

Similar to the s400 chassis in physical size, compressor cover is a little bigger on the gt though

Will be capable of around 1kwhp before the compressor is done

Here is my location:

I think you'd need to put it elsewhere with one that size though.

I thought the billet wheel on the GTX would make more than that?
The GT4708 is rated at 1150 hp, how much more is the billet wheel supposed to give?

Not that 1000whp isn't enough, I was just wondering.  :)

Well, if it's good for 1250 flywheel, that's pretty close to 1000 RWHP.  :)

Yeah. The s480 cast borgs will make 1000-1050 on the lsx stuff flat out free spooled and they have a bigger better turbine and a little better compressor

If you look at the compressor maps between the gtx 80 and the regular gt 80 compressors there is hardly any difference in the two at the pressure ratio and flow you will be at

The gain is at elevated pressure levels

That's not the case for all wheels but in the case of these two it is

There is mine.

Physically my turbine housing is bigger, but your compressor cover is a little bigger

I think I'll mount it "zbrown style" also.

My biggest problem right now is the downpipe... I'd like to have it go to the back of the car.
It's going to be street driven quite a lot and the fender exit exhaust will be a problem.

Do you have an intercooler?

You can get a 4" pipe out the passenger side with the c6 manifolds. Just is tight.

I have have a 3" full exhaust out the back that is very quiet, I have a large fender dump on an electric cutout when I want it

The wrapped pipe is the full exhaust . The large aluminum continues to the cutout

I have an LT1 so I'll need to use headers for a gen1 SBC.

I was thinking about routing the DP like yours and using headers that go up & forward, maybe the DP could fit between the header and the frame.
