WTB Swapped FD 15-25k
« on: February 08, 2014, 03:39:22 PM »
Hey guys,

I've been lurking on this forum for a long time trying to soak up as much of knowledge as i can about these cars before diving into buying one. As the title says, I will very soon be in the market for a swapped FD in the 15-25k price range. 25k is the most i really want to spend but if it something that's absolutely perfect I could be persuaded to go over. I know this is a huge price range but I understand how these cars can vary from build to build in level of complexity and quality. I work offshore which leaves me with lots of free time when I'm home. I just want something fun to ride around. Eventually I'd like to be able to drive it to various racetracks, have some fun, and drive it home. So my number one concern is reliability. My second concern is the interior. It seems its very hard and expensive to buy nice interior pieces for these cars so i would like it to already be good on that front. I love in Baton Rouge, Louisiana so a/c is definitely something i would like (although it seems no one that sells them ever has it working, what's with that?).

My perfect FD: Ls3/t56, either white, black, red, or blue, Clean interior with stereo, working a/c, popup headlights (really like the r magic ones but for $2000 forget that!), no spoiler/wing relatively fresh paint and full shine auto FEED kit with the whale tail center light and 99spec taillights

Now that being said I understand the NO ONE would sell an FD like that for that price. so i guess basically all I'm asking is for a clean fully functioning car, preferably with a/c and preferably on the lower to mid end of my price range allowing me to build it into something close to what i mentioned above.

My expectation:
>10k: Clean Roller with swap kit already installed
14-17k: Running car that needs cosmetic work, Like mechanical work and a/c or basic ls1 swap without many mods past the swap itself
17-20K: Mechanically sound car with minor cosmetic work and/or a/c components are there but not hooked up (who knows how many times I've seen that written);
21-25k: Modified LS1 or better (350whp), no mechanical/electrical issues, pretty clean car
25-28k: For me to buy at this price the car would have to be pretty much turn key, no worries mechanically and cosmetically inside and out with a/c working. Doesnt have to be  my "perfect idea" but I shouldn't have to do anything else to it.

I'm not looking to buy this second as i am still offshore and have to take care of my taxes first but in the next month or so i will be seriously on the hunt. Feel free to chime in as I am checking this website WAYYY more than what I would like to admit.

LOL, there are a few in that range I'd take a look at, for sure.    That's a good price range, I think you can find what you want for that money, no problem.   :)

Thanks, Like i said I have been spending A LOT of time on this forum so i have a good idea of what these sell for.

The whole a/c thing blows my mind though. 90% of the cars if seen have "all the components are there for a/c but i haven't had time to set it up yet." Then the ad runs for like 4-5 months before selling... still without working a/c. Often times the ad will even say how its ready to go and its cheap and easy to finish it up but they never do. I've read enough build threads to know it is infact not as easy as people make it sound so i put a premium on a car with a/c. I guess its understandable since its wintertime but I'd easily pay 1000 bucks more to have the same car with a/c than without.

I'll definitely be shotgunning out PMs to most of the cars on this forum that don't say sold in their posts once i get my taxes squared away. Would have done it already but don't want to seem like a tire kicker or non-serious buyer. I guess this is a heads up that if your car has sold already u might want to mention it in your thread or else I could be annoying you soon.

Rex7fd,

Your car was one of the ones I've been looking at. I'm probably responsible for about 75 of that pages views lol. Is the car painted flat black or is that a wrap or plastidip? Also i didn't see it mentioned in your ad and I'm too much of a noob to tell by looking but does the car have a/c?

Its painted with a single stage Matte Black, then it was sprayed with a Semi Gloss clear.  Pictures don't do it justice.  It "could" have AC but I didn't want it...... I am lazy.

Just wanted to say that I'm looking for almost the exact same thing as you are---reliable (needs no work and capable of driving across country), A/C, and nice interior.  I'm amazed how hard that is to find.  I also need a car that will pass a smog test.  (Not a CA smog test, but almost as stringent.)  If you happen to find a car like that and end up passing on it, send it my way if you get a chance.  Thanks!

It's also amazing to me how many people never bother getting the AC to work in their cars.  I'm from Mississippi and I had the AC working before i even started fixing my oil burning issues.  Even in San Diego, I use my AC more than half the time i drive the car.  Just a heads up, rx7's have a lot of glass and don't have a real strong blower from the factory, so even with a good setup it won't be crisp on those 105 degree sunny yet humid days in Louisiana.  Still helps a ton.....think sweaty pits vs "omg did you just get out of a pool?"

Yeah I drove for two years with no a/c in my old Camaro so I know how chappy it is. I'd always keep a spare shirt with me to change into when I arrived at my destination cut I'd soak right through my current one. The car I am about to buy doesn't have it but the deal is too hard to pass up over missing a/c.
