Corner weighed my car... pleasantly surprised
« on: September 24, 2013, 12:02:35 PM »
Friend had some scales for the week so I got the chance to throw my 7 on, so I thought I'd share my results.

LS2+T56, ps, a/c, full interior, 18s, jdm chassis

with 7/8ths of a tank and me in the seat

Car was 2977 by itself and 3150 with me in the driver seat (rhd, remember)

I was surprised to see that the right side weight was lower. I don't get why that would be.

[attach=1]

Obviously I'm happy with the distribution...  both front/rear as well as the crossweight! Esp considering that this was a baseline. No adjustments made.

Happy to hear any comments or suggestions.

Fairly heavy for an FD. My FC weighs nearly the same under same conditions. Those corner weights can be cleaned up if you have coilovers. FC's are tougher to balance out.
I do love what I do!

That seems high by about 150lbs.

Are they lightweight wheels?
What exhaust and material?
What clutch/flywheel?
Steel or alum driveshaft?
Is this a Touring model with sunroof?
Factory BOSE stereo intact?
With spare tire/tools/rear carpet etc?

Kinda strange mine weighs 3150 with me and 2/3 tank in it.  2960 with 3/4 tank without me. Its a 94 base with pep pkg, ls1 swap with ac,pw st,stock manifolds into 2.5 steel y pipe/ 3" ss mid with high flow and rb catback, stock clutch, small battery in engine compartment, abs, spare, full interior, 5zigens 17*10, tein coilovers, 10" sub in truck and misc tools/junk in it! I thought mine was heavier then most but not out there?!...

alum flywheel, no subwoofer, headers, s/s exhaust, mufflers, alum dshaft, no spare tire/tools/rear carpet will all save weight.

it was 2977 on its own..  so not quite c5 z06 territory, but close i guess

it's a Type R, so it has no sunroof or bose system,  but it has the factory fog lights

aluminum flywheel
no sub, but it has speakers and an external amp (negligible? i dunno)
headers
stainless 3.5" exhaust
alum DS
yes to spare tire, tools, full carpeting throughout

18x8.5 / 18x9.5 RPF-1s (2-piece Type RCs) with RS-3s all around

extra sound/heat deadening underneath
full shine body kit probably adds a few pounds too
oil cooler

i have a pair of sparco buckets to replace the factory seats, so that will hopefully help

and this was with ~17 gallons of go-go juice

im more happy with the distribution on the thing than the acutal weight. but considering it's a "full" car, i'm not really complaining

and yes it has coilovers so it can be fine tuned to be even closer, but this is not a priority just yet

i just wanted a ball park

and yes, the ammo for use with the rotary guys is great too =)

+1 on the heavy weight.  My touring weighs 2965 with a 5 point roll cage, AC, cruise, abs and a rear mount turbo and no weight reduction I still have the never before used rear wiper.

That must be a heavy body kit or there's 100# of dope hidden in the car.

haha maybe i should check under the seat

Blake: Type R is one of the trims they used in japan. Along with Type S (base), Type X (automatic), and then later Type RZ, Bathurst R, etc.

I believe the closest north american equivalent would be an r1.  dual oil coolers, rear spoiler, front lip, slicktop, no bose, manual only, strut tower bars

I'm surprised by the heavy left side as well.  And the extra weight in general.  Mine weighed in at 2730 with half a tank of gas but I'm missing AC and spare tire.  Either way, if you want to make some changes I would add some cross weight too it.  I know a lot of people say to shoot for 50% but with that kind of a difference in front weights I would shoot for about 51.5%.  This will get your front split down to around 40lbs, which is still on the high side but acceptable.  This is for road course use anyway, for street it won't matter that much.

Are you sure you didn't drive the car on backwards or something?  Maybe left your bowling ball collection in the left seat?
