Spark plug wires that fit with JTR longtubes
« on: May 26, 2013, 03:09:27 PM »
So I have JTR 1 7/8" longtubes, truck coils.  What have others used for plug wires?  The truck wires I kept from my LQ4 (now have LS3 heads) are too long and the rubber coming out of the spark plug connection hits the headers on a few cylinders.

Thanks,
Scott

I'm running msd wires on my ls1 w Jtr 1 7/8. They're designed so that you can bend the boot area around the headers, so it worked out great for me

I use the Taylor Pro409 wires with Taylor Space Age boots, it's the only setup that hasn't eventually burned out a couple wires.   I think my price is like $130 or $140 for a set of both.

Bumping up, my car keeps eating MSD wires and they fit well but just don't last for some reason.  Had to limp home on 6 cyl yesterday.

What's the latest plug wire people like now and will fit these big long tubes?

I've been using these for 2 or 3 years now with no issues, but they are now unavailable:

Summit has a suggested replacement on the page, I think the 135 degree boot is pretty critical. I'm running the Ronin Headers as well but assuming they aren't much different from the JTR near the port.

I've got nothing to add regarding plug wires, but did you pull the injector wires for the dead cylinders before driving? If not, you may want to change the oil if it has much gas smell to it.

I have easily 15k miles on a set of MSD plug wires never had an issue. Not sure why you'd be burning them up Kinger.  They're moldable around the primary tubes and have a nice airgap all around.

They won’t fit. I tried 135 degree ones and broke it trying to install.

Correct I said eating the wires not burning, physically they look new but keep dropping cylinders.  I love the mold design and fitment is great. I have a new box and 4 of them measured open! [emoji15]

So summit sent me another box. 7 of those were good. So I have a few spares I’ll throw on first.
