Which way are you guys talking about? Method A or B?

I tried  A, and it would vary quite a bit by just barely moving the angle finder. Was hard to get consistent results.

And B makes my angle finder give an error message. Will either just get an analog angle finder or need to calibrate this one perpendicular to floor.

I am no expert but shouldn't you be making the left or right side of the finder against the flat of the flange. Like B but using the side of the finder?

The angle finder should be vertical on the flange. Over wise its not going to read correctly.

Went out and got an analog angle finder. Without moving anything I tested it out. It looks like it is already right where it should be. Looks like both methods could have worked. Although this is arguably easier to measure because it has a larger base you don't have to worry about it falling off. And the magnetic base actually sticks to it unlike the aluminum casing.

You are right there! That is the absolute best way to measure it.

I wonder if the mounting equipment (minus axles) would work with a cobra diff.
The front mounting points of the explorer diff look to be in the same locations (or at least really close).

The mount positions are close, but not the same between the two housings. The explorer front mounts are thicker than the cobra front mounts as well.

You could probably fab up new mounting tabs for the front of the diff pretty easily to make it work.

the bushings and a couple shims would take care of any issues with the thickness of the front mounts.

I'm planning to make my own kit. just thought it might be an easy way to save some time if it lined up.

You should ping Joel.. Maybe you could get a "builders kit" with the front tabs not welded to the bridge.

That would save you lots of time.

Quick question, what are you guys doing for the inner boots?  The one's that are supplied with the kit don't have the recess in them like the stock ford boots.  How are you getting them to seal tight?

Thanks

Ford uses a rubber conversion piece to space between the boot and cv shape. You may need to track those down if you bought your rear end in pieces.

Another user commented on this as well recently so I added a note and a few pictures to the latest version of the install instructions. Shoot us a line at roninspeedworks@gmail.com if you'd like us to send you the updated instructions.

I have a question about drive shaft length. Is everyone able to reuse their drive shaft with a new pinion flange. I will be installing my Differential next weekend and the drive shaft is the only thing I have left to worry about.

Also is there a picture of what the cv axle spacers looks like?
