jasons LSx/2004r FC Build Thread

Yep, putting another one together.   This one is for jasons on the forum.   It's a 5.3 LS + 2004r in an FC.   Will be putting this one together over the next few weeks.  Planning to work with Jason to put the engine/trans in it tomorrow morning.

Here's the garage right now:

I thought he sold off all his parts? That chassis is really clean from what I remember.

It's a VERY clean chassis.   He sold some of it, but he brought a garage full of goodies.   :)

Sorry, that was a cell phone picture.

Jason helped me put the engine/transmission in today.   I had to fiddle with transmission placement a little, since the Ronin mounts aren't made for a 2004r.   I cut the mounting pad off, moved it up a little bit and now the engine/trans sit in the right spot, and I have all the sweet clearance of a Ronin mount for exhaust.

I also put one of the Tein coilovers on, and did most of the mods on the passenger (easier) side header to fit correctly.   Need to clearance the firewall for it a little, but it's close enough that it bolts to the car now.    Driver's side will need to have the head side flange cut off, and have it reclocked. Both of them will be modified with 3" to 2.5" cones and v-bands.

Have a big box of mandrel bends and 2.5" pipe to build the rest of the system.

Pictars:

Engine/tranny in after some custom mods to the Ronin tranny mount to fit the 2004r and keep the engine off the firewall:

Mac mid, tranny dip stick, Tein camber plate:

Dropped on the Tein coils:

What you can't see in the pictures is the new lower control arms with poly bushings, new hubs w/ fresh bearings and extended lugs and new brake rotors.    Calipers need torn down, cleaned up, fresh pads and new brake lines, so those are off the car for now.   I have one of the swaybar endlinks redone with poly bushings also, I'll put those back in when I do the brakes.    Going to try and get the rear hubs swapped to ones with DTSS bushings/extended studs/fresh bearings as well as the Tein's out back tomorrow night.

Coming along nicely though.   Next up after that will be swapping the crank pulley, dropping on accessories, and pulling the dash for wiring.   Then it will be fuel system, cooling system, driveshaft, exhaust, test drive.   :)

Works been kicking my butt this week (and last for that matter) so I haven't gotten as much done as I wanted.   I did swap the crank pulley to the car piece, drill/tap the water pump and mock it up, as well as figure out the alternator bracket.    I also tore apart LS1 harness and gutted the unused wiring out of it.   Just need to depin the PCM connectors and pull it through the firewall, then get it tied into the FC chassis harness.   I also mocked up the radiator and started looking at how to do the mounts for it, shouldn't be bad.

I've got to pull the transmission and its systems out of my car this weekend, so that will block out some of my time, but I'd like to have the harness done, rear suspension done and dash out of the car this weekend to get it ready to finish the wiring work.   If it goes well I'll try and finish up most of the fuel system as well, I'd really like to have it running in <2 weeks.

Finished up the rear suspension work (hubs/coilovers/etc):

Finished cleaning up the wiring harness and removing unneeded wires/pins back to the PCM connector, and ran it through the firewall hole where the A/C went originally (no A/C in this car):

Wires dropped into the interior:

Trying to get a little done each night.
