Devin's LT1 FC RX7
« on: October 12, 2012, 01:06:21 AM »
I'm rebuilding my 1987 TII RX7 with a LT1 and T56 drivetrain. I have owned the car for around 200 years and have only managed to get a years worth of drive time in so i'm putting it back into compassion ASAP. I trashed my rotary about 8 years ago with a poor setup. My friends and I talked about how fun it would be to do a V8 swap of some kind back in 2003. Well I'm finally making it happen! This build thread will exhibit the path I have chosen for the time and budget I am allowing myself. I hope it will be interesting and even helpful for others in their pursuit of completing a similar swap.

Here she is.

This is right after painting the engine bay and bolting in the Granny's Speed Shop SBC basic kit.

Some transmission tunnel modification.

Prepped and coated transmission tunnel with undercoating.

Here I pulled the original gas tank to install a less rusty one with a Walbro 255 fuel pump.

200 year old fuel.

While the tank was out I swapped in my rear Tokico Blue struts and Tein springs.

Also mildly polished the front control arms, painted the subframe, and installed energy suspension bushings in the front end.

To the OP, you should check out mpcv2000 build. I'm sure any and every question you have will be answered with clarity.
His car was built in a clean room and I think he uses camera technology from satellite technology.
Amazing!

I've made a lot of progress but don't have much time for updating here. Here is a few pictures of the progress.

I ordered the 7/8 bore Wilwood Master Cylinder (Modified) with adapter to make it set upright.

Pulled the intake manifold off to check out the intake ports and clean things up. Purple Power, a water hose and my roommates toothbrush did work.

Before

After.

New gaskets, bolts with washers and it looks pretty good now :)

I also painted the block grey because I got tired of the same old black I usually use. I'm happy with the way it turned out.

I had to end up removing the clutch fork to tighten up the spring retainer because someone bent it at one point and that allowed the fork to move around enough to rub the pressure plate.

There she goes!

This was a great sight.

Mounting the transmission cross member was easy.

Front and rear struts are in.

It really needs some wheels and to be leveled out.

Almost identical build to mine other than the wheels.  It's almost uncanny.  Same car, same engine, same tranny, same suspension, same color lol.

Haha awesome! I like the wheels. I actually really like the color of our cars, especially with black accents. I will be painting my whole car black though.
