FC Front Strut Tower Brace Bar
« on: September 26, 2012, 04:14:08 PM »
Does anyone know of a front strut bar that will fit on an FC with a SBF, carburetor & air cleaner.

I'm thinking like those old-school mustang ones. Anyone seen one that bols up with an FC?

you'll probably have to do a custom set up, but hardly anybody runs them anyhow, even on the big power cars

I liked it enough that I'm doing another once the new setup is done.  On an FC the top of the shock tower is directly in the load path.  A lot of the track guys (meaning road course) around here love them particularly in the twisties.

Not sure but a carb setup might be easier than an LS as most of the aftermarket FC bars run side to side forward of the shock towers in order to clear the alternator with the rotary.   Do you have anything that mounts forward of the carb (distributor or whatever?)

small block fords do run a front distributor
(I suppose most of the high power cars are aimed at straight line racing, hence not needing them)

Josh has out done me again.

I have the racing beat one that bolts to the firewall similar to Josh's above. I definately noticed a difference when it was on. It needs to be modified to fit over a LS1 intake manifold.. but I was going to work with Anthony to make one up like Josh's out of aluminium.

I you're gonna build a 4point that bolts to the firewall (rather than weld), you'll want to put the car on jack stands, supported under the frame rails. If you allow the nose to sag when you build the bar, it should load the fore-aft members in compression once the car is on the ground. Free stiffness :-)

I have a carbed sbf in my fc with one of those triangulated strut bars like in their pics, but it connects at the front of the strut tower instead of the back. It works but only with a little air cleaner (7" I think?) I probably won't be reusing it so maybe I will sell it :p

Bam got a pic.. Don't mind the wiring lol, it was very temporary.

No, but I can send you DXF's for the plate items. You'll just have to cut tubing and weld it up

I don't weld, I had a shop do it
