If you want to stick with a 4 banger, check out the Ford 2.3 turbo. Cheap, easy to find and work on, there's all ready swap mount kits out there. Plus in a 3000+ lbs car I still get 35+ mpg as long as I stay out of the boost.

Just the FC as a daily is a terrible idea. I'm sure mint examples are better but I've never had so many little stupid things fail on a car as in the FC.

Every electrical switch/component, expect it to fail multiple times.

The ls1/ignition system is the most reliable part of the car.

As far as the chassis goes i thought it was pretty reliable. I got stuck daily driving my sbc swapped fc this summer when my civic blew up , and it never let me down. The only issue i've had are the intermittent intermittent wipers lol.

I daily a rotory fc. In 35k Ive had no failures except the intermitant wipers but I have a new relay for that. My car was a no ricer/racer and very clean unmolested example.

There is more out there then v8s, 2JZ and SR20s
those have been done and over done, make great power, reliable and whatever.
Why not try to keep it mazda?

Depending on your power goals mazda has perfectly good engines that can make really good power. Many swap in with a bellhousing change.

That is what I am doing with my F2T powered FC.

Chances are mazda being a small company shared the same MZR block with some RWD mazda.

As things are I can bolt up an F2T, FE3 strait up to an FC, FD, Miata, or even an Rx8, at times even without a bellhousing swap.
